Dragon Quest 9...Dogged!
I am absolutely gutted that this game is coming out on the d.s, when the last one was on the ps2. What kind of a platform leap is that? What about the die hards of the series? Are we supposed to shell out for a new console every time one of these games come out now? I guess they don't mind substituting quality for sales, which i guess is fair enough from their end, but it's a pretty big slap in the face for us consumers. Imagine the cell shaded beauty brought into the next gen ps3. it would be a bigger, smoother and well rounded game. It kills me to think that i won't be spending another 200+ hours level grinding and treaure hunting my little bum off. Oh well, hopefully they move back for DQ10... you never know, it might end up as an online only, like FF11

Im the same. My first Dragon Quest was 8 on the PS2. Really wanted a PS3 sequel for 9. Shame its on the DS and you may be more disapointed to hear the tenth one is going to be on the Wii and was confirmed last year.
Just have to accept its a Japanese game and the Wii and DS are really popular over there. Although saying that at least the Wii DQ will have PS2 level graphics so it should still be a very good game to play.

That's pretty lame... I've always been a huge Dragon WARRIOR fan (that's what us real gamers call it  ) ever since Dragon Warrior taught me how to read at the age of 4. I dabbled in 8 but didn't own it, it was a ton of fun and there was a lot of gameplay and monster involved sidequests which I liked a lot and I would've bought 9 if it was on 360... but I'm not going to go buy a DS.... screw that

Same for me in England as well, 8 was the first one. There are some re releases on DS I think though or can always just download the roms off the net of the NES and SNES versions.

damn america for already havng that name XD
i have only actually FINISHED 8 on ps2 i forgot about the other ones before i did them (roms obviously)
luckily i have a DS (got it for pokemonXD)
i do hate that though just like FF and KH they have to have spinoffs to tie in the story on psp AND ds so you neeed playstation psp ds and god kows XD its ridiculous, games like that should be released on all platforms, or at least handhels(if the game was originaly on one should be made for it again no switching to a completely different system and making a new game jesus--

well this probably wont suprise you guys but in america DQ isnt that big. yeah there are fans and stuff, but theres no like midnight release with lines going around a block.
the developers know this.
and the fact is, DQ might as well be a national pasttime in japan. like, its freaking crazy. think about all the hype for like mario, metal gear, halo, and a final fantasy 7 remake for the ps3, combine it all, and thats the craziness in japan over DQ.
that being said, penalty has a point, its about selling the game and the ds is (was? might not be right now) outselling every other console, handheld or console.
so them putting it out on the ds means they have the potential to hit the largest selling croud so far. the only other option would be to put it out on the ps2 again, but im not sure how well that performed before... so yeah. maybe they just needed a change.
and isnt there already a DQ game on the wii. maybe not a direct one but something to do with slashing with swords and stuff. i vaguely remember it. it may not be out yet? not really sure.

makes a lot of sense seifer, and yeah i mean i hadnt heard of dragon quest until i downloaded some roms for it by luck, and i dont know anyone besides dazzy who knows it either.
despite it being popular enough as you said in japan to spawn that many sequals and there are already quite a few spin offs on the ds if im not mistaken
all what you aid made sense so kool
