Dragon Age

so tired....
the game is so freaking good. i played it for 16 hours straight.
from 10am, to 2am.

probably my favorite game of all time.

of all the elements of this game that are great (and they are all great, the graphics, gameplay, characters, battle, spells, items, levels are ALL AMAZING) the ONE feature that makes this game my favorite game of all time is this:
The story is INTERESTING.

many RPG's have rich backstories that are immensely detailed and vast. but i generally dont care too much about them (oblivion's setting is fun, but the history is forgettable)

Dragon Age is so far, the ONLY RPG since Baldurs Gate where the story has actively captivated me, made me want to just learn more about this world and the NPC's stories. when im given a historical perspective from a noble about the war with the elves and their enslavement, i pay attention as it is fascinating. the intricate history between the elves and humans is amazing.

so: if you want to play an RPG with an impressive, epic story that is captivating and involving, you know what game i will be playing.

i hate those games that give you like
1000 books to read along the game that give you PAGES of history for pointless reasons and you just cant be bothered to read all that evenm if it WAS interesting XD

i hope you mean baldurs gate like the old pc one(still my fave pc game, still have it, might play it sometimeXD) and not on of those new walk around with one character hardly any quests linear character development short as hell ones they have on consoles nowadays XD

anyway back on point

i dont know much about this game (ioll have to find out) but i saw a trailer for it on tv yesterday and i was impressed to say the least defenitaly should look into it

when i say Baldurs gate, i mean the PC classic, not the console knockoff. which were fine, but really should not have been called baldur's gate. just "DnD Dark alliance" would have been acceptable.

anyway.... yeah there is the option for hundreds of books. the books automatically are inserted to a section of your journal so you don't have to haul them around. and can reference them at any point.

its still part of the category i refer to as a "SlowRPG" where the purpose of playing the game is for a well crafted story and plot rather than non-stop action. there is enough combat to make the game still interesting, but im afraid that this game is not for somone who prefers to skip the dialouge/cutscenes to get to the action.

i do find myself skipping alot of the extra reading material that they offer. as there are TONS of reading material to look though. i prefer to use the information gathered through NPC's in dialogue trees as this encourages me to learn more about cultures as a sociable person would. so rather than just read the story of why dwarves cannot cast spells and use magic, i instead visit the dwarven city and have a discussion with a dwarf wanting to do just that and the difficulties of being a mage that cant cast spells.

the game truely feels free, i know that the actions that i make in the game, even minor ones will have an impact later on. for example i just killed a messenger from the standing king for calling me a traitor to the throne. i could have NOT killed him by either: Ignoring him, Scaring him away, or not calling his lord a coward.
either way i killed the messenger, and i do not doubt that my action will hit me later on in the plot.

since there is so much voice acting i hear the sound is terrible. though... the reviews ive heard that from are talking about the 360 version since its just the one disc. im sure the pc and even ps3 version soind better as the one is blu ray and the pc has multiple discs right?

either way, i hear the blood effects are ridiculous, as in killing a rat can get you covered with blood. hilarious.

i honestly wouldnt know
i dont have the 360 version
i dont have the PS3 version
i have the version for the platform that the game was built for, and designed around. the PC.

i bought it on steam, so no discs, its 15gb though. so i can see how trying to compress that to half of that would cause for some poor voice/texture compression.

from what i hear about the console versions though is:
the PS3 has good textures, but poor framerate
the 360 has stable framerate, but looks worse than the PS3.

yeah you can get covered in blood by killing rats, its all dynamic too, as its the blood splatter that comes off the creature that sticks to your character model. so kill one rat and you have just a little blood, kill a rat army and your drenched.

They were all released at the same time so I doubt there'd be any audio differences.

I'd like to get this game but theres too many other games I want too. Mass Effect is taking a while and I'm enjoying that a lot. Then it has a sequel coming out in January. Then forza 3. Mmm

Hooray for blood!

arrrr I WANT THIS GAME!

god, the reviews looked so good, and the play!

I love the bit where the 'Thing" looking character stomps a chicken, then shrugs like "What?"

classic

Firstly. Awesome avatar Trooper, glad the connection to your name is made lol

Does this game have a % completion number? I'm sort of against that, though really I'm about to finish FFX-2 and I only have 60% completion lol

To be honest I wasn't aware of the percentage untill recently when I was looking through my list of accomplishments,I figure if I miss something on this run I'll do it on my next character.

it does, but its not tied to how close you are to beating the game.
its how much of the game you have beaten across all characters.
seeing as how you only get less than half the game on one playthrough, you'll probably end on like 30% or something.
