Do you believe the PS3 may be a flop?

To be honest I have never seen a product that has received nothing but bad news turn things around for the good. Hopefully history will change that but there would have to be a lot of changes for the PS3 to come out on top. I know a lot of people are saying that MGS, DMC, and FF will save the console, but that may only be if those games remain exclusives. I have been a gamer for over 24 years and if the PS3 doesn't impress me as an avid gamer then I cannot help but wonder how it will impress others who demand a quality product supplying a lifetime of entertainment.

I'll have to wait and see... the cost of the console is way too high for me. I don't need another DVD player built into a game console. If they would have sold it without that part built in, then I probably would get one, but then, not until I see a game for it I want. I see no PS3 games that interest me so far.

You know how history repeats itself... remember in the 80's the arcades used to be packed in the US and then they just died off because of the games offering nothing new. I always wondered when the gaming industry would begin to decline since the games are so much more expensive and take a lot more time to create.

yea they're a lot much expensive like you say, yet they're not even as good as they used to be. The only games I think you can say that have stayed good are the sports games, but that's because they never change. And that gets a little tiring. I really do hope MGS, and FF are great, I'm really considering not buying anything until around July, with the exception of a PSP

Im not sure if the PS3's a flop. There are plenty of reasonably good games this year. Say Motorstorm, Lair and Heavenly Sword. The only trouble is these games while they may be good none of them stand out as really huge games you have to get.
I think what may happen for PS3's future depends alot on what happens when GTA4 is out. Its the game that will take the masses to next gen. Now if they see that game on the 360 and PS3 but the 360 is over a £100 cheaper which will they pick? I think GTA4 has the potential to be the death of PS3. Forget FF13 etc there being released too far down the line and it will probably be to late then.
So the best thing for PS3 could well be a GTA4 delay so Sony can establish there own games and get the price of their console more competitive.
I do also have that feeling the PS3 may flop because no one has won 3 gens in a row. Even im starting to feel like should I change consoles.

dont be a fool my child..have a little faith and you will be rewarded (i hope).
honestly though the ps3 will need time so it is best to wait before coming to any conclusions.
i really do hope it isnt a flop though..considering that the alternatives are the amateurish looking wii and the adequate xbox 360- if it came down to it...id either just stick to my ps2 till the next gen afterwarrds or opt for the 360 as a last resort.

Personally, i think Motorstorm is an outstanding game. Each part of the car/buggy/truck/dirt bike is detachable, making for some awesome, Burnout-like(but more extreme) crash scenes.
And why does everyone forget Resistance:Fall of Man?!
That game is single-handedly the best game for the PS3. It has been rated as good as Gears of War and thats saying something, seeing as Gears of War got months of hype and Resistance:Fall of Man got none.
I think the PS3 is not a flop and that it is still too early to decide officially whether or not it is.
Also, Fun, arcades took forever to die off and you cant compare them to the PS3 by saying they offered nothing new, because the PS3 offers a lot of new qualities.

I agree with everything you say about Motorstorm but for me being Burnout like is why ill probably hate it. I only ever played the demo of Burnout but the slow motion crash scenes just put me right off. Looks good yes but becomes annoying.

Yeah. Resistance looks like it has a great story line. Its set in my country so it would be good to see some of the places in the game. It appears to have alot of different weapons to most FPS and makes the game more strategic.
It is made by Insomniac who are great first party developers for Sony. I think Resistance may be a trilogy. Ive heard the second one may be set in America or something. Wont know till I play it though. Have to wait till March for that.

I think that it is just to early to tell. I would think that if the wii ends up not being as good as expected more people will go towards the PS3. But it is still fairly early in the game.

i would agree with you on Motorstorm and Resistance but for a few thigns:
Resistance got A TON of hype.. before the PS3 lauched it was touted as the best looking launch game for the console.. a "Must buy"
and after playing it.. i disagree.
its more like a watered down version of Halo 1... what i mean is.. the game wont be rememberd by its * single player, but rather by its multiplayer (which i never got to test... and i hear is fun)
sony has a LONG way to go before it catches up with the 360.. hell it has a long way to go to catch up with the Wii even.

hmm you know, the problems haine sees in this is (like why people aren't buying after christmas and before):
1. Too expensive - especially after Christmas, like seriously, who actually has money left after splurging on other people? lol haine sure doesn't. Even if they do, it probably wouldn't be enough to pay for the PS3. In all honest opinion, releasing something so big (price wise) near christmas is actually a bad idea because people are already beginning to shop for christmas presents not for one person but ALOT OF people and most people don't make that much money with everything going up in price (water, electricity etc.)
2. Games - there are never enough good game (or any at times) out when a new console comes out. And they are just WAY too expensive. the makers are about the money now, not the game.
3. People want more - People aren't just into games now they want more from a console, that's why they have a dvd player in it. People get bored easily and even just thinking about it they'll get bored. Alot of people will think, "ah you just wait, there will be more and much better console in the future". Now its like this, you want people's attention? then you better be able to perform 100 tricks at once
4. Companies want money - honestly, what do most companies think of? MONEY! do they really care about what the gamers really want? no not really lol, there thought on this is, "catch there attention, make it all sparkly and nice and they're sure to buy it" which actually works most of the time
5. All the same - all the consoles can almost do the same thing! you know the built in wireless controller (ps3, wii...) can play DVDs, can go on the internet and play games with people. you know etc. etc. so really it all falls to the games, which console have better games in the persons opinion lol
Anyways, people like to wait until it gets cheaper anyways, and when there's actually good games out. Haine's gonna wait a bit till all the bugs are fixed and get one from hong kong lol so haine can also play the real jap versions of certain games lol oh and Haine hates the Xbox 360 lol what's so great about it?

the American PS3 will beable to play Chinese, japanese, korean, North American region games. no need for an Asian imported-PS3 at all.
what makes the 360 so great?

More games
Less bugs
$200 less.
