Has anyone seen the trailer on their Website (D-9) I was looking forward to Transformers, now this is all i wanna see this summer..
btw, after the trailer your redirected to a viral campaign. reminds me of the Starship Troopers website back in its Viral hay day, and the whole CHOOSE TO FIGHT mantra, lol
BlackBook Magazine exclusive with Sharlto Copley and sneak peek into District 9:
There’s a scene where you’re forced to shoot alien weapons in a test lab. What was that like?
It was incredibly intense. The guy playing the doctor was great. You can see he’s actually hitting me in the scene, and he really smacked me around. He was just really good at provoking me. The shooting [of the film] involved me often being tied down, constrained, so just wearing me down—physically and emotionally. That scene was the same thing.
What was it like working with the alien arm?
It was so helpful to have that prosthetic on me. Not having acted, and going into the movie not knowing how my character was gonna be when this transformation happens—I knew him at the beginning, I didn’t know how he was gonna end—and being able to sit through makeup, zoning out listening to music would really steer me to the character. You just look at yourself and immediately there was a feeling of what that character is. It played a massive role for me in helping steer what the character was going to become.
first off, i wasnt aware of the documentary like style for most of the beginning. lot of handycam stuff but nothing as sickening as cloverfield.
thats just something i figure people would want to know.
everything else, totally fantastic. pretty crazy to think it got made for 30 million and it will probably make that in one weekend.
the main guy did a great job, even more so considering this is his first time in front of a camera acting. props to the dude.
go see it twice you guys.
a little side note, the previews for the movie were pretty good. two movies to look out for: shutter island (i think thats the name) with leo dicaprio whatever. and the other was "the forth kind" i think. with the milla j chick from the resident evil movie. both look pretty freaking creepy.
I don't understand how people say Cloverfield was sickening. Iheard SOOO much about that movie, people saying they hated it and it made them vomit to people saying they loved it because it made them vomit. It was lame in my opinion. lol
Well I'm going to see D-9 tonight. I hope I like it, but the news of it being documentary style is a bit disappointing. I'll see how it goes
i find the idea of D-9 kinda lame but what they did with the idea seems quite good for starting with a lame idea, so yeah i say i might see it on movieforumz or when it goes on tmnod or on dvd at some point but not in theatres since i got no one to see it with. if sum one wanted to see it with id be like, sure. but im not gonna ask ppl to see it with me since i'm not that intrested.
its a good story, and main dude did a good job acting, loved how his character transitions from the goody goody by the books kinda guy to what happens towards the end..
i could look up his name, but it wouldnt make a difference since youve never heard of any of them, least of all the main guy. the reason for that is district 9's main dude, this is his first on screen appearance ever. he's worked on movies in the past but never acting, always behind the cam i believe. but this he stars as the main guy and he did a great job.
the reason is pretty clear. no days in the movie industry if you want to make a movie that gets any actual reaction other than "ohhh shiny things and explosions" you need to cast people nobody knows, otherwise you run the risk of the following situation:
"oh man did you see District 9?"
"yeah it was pretty great. man do i love action. and did you see tom cruise as the main guy, totally nailed it. but he was better in MI 2"
casting big movie stars takes the audience out of the movie, most of the time without knowing it. the mere fact that youve seen the actor in a different roll, lessens any future role that is in a different genre.
to different degrees with everyone of course, but thats the reason why movies that come out of the blue go with no-name actors. also, they are cheap. lol.
Normally, if I tell people that Tom Cruise is in a movie then instantly they will go "...oh" and be no longer interested in it..
I also prefer movies with guys I've never seen before since judging a film on an actors performance robs you of being taken in by the story.
One of the best aspects of D-9 was that they were genuine South Africans and not a fake copy *cough*Blood Diamond*cough*.
It was very very different to anything in its genre really, very light-hearted and a lot of comedy as well, very down to earth. The main character, as said before, was quirky at the beginning but later changed as the movie progressed.
I liked the little things as well such as the logo's with human-only areas.
Hidden:
My favourite part was when one of the aliens swore.
The only niggling thing with the movie was perhaps that because it was different it felt a bit too different. I mean you would think after TWENTY years that some humans, military or other would have gone up to the ship and, you know, taken almost everything critical from it for study. Rather than just leaving it up there so it can take off again.
