Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy Information Topic

As many of you probably already know I was downright obsessed with the first game, and this second round is no different.

The intention of this topic is to answer questions about the game, explain the new systems, and the like. If you have any questions, regarding ANY aspect of the game, FEEL FREE TO ASK THEM. I cannot stress this enough, I am more than happy to answer any question, no matter how trivial, or how complex.

I'll open up this topic with some info on the core systems.

The old Bravery and HP system from the first game is completely intact, no real changes to speak of, other than the fact that the HP cap of 9999 has been completely removed. Bravery is still capped at 9999 however. The health bars have been reworked so that they are properly informational now, rather than just some stupid decoration.

Next up, the Assist system. This is a completely new gimmick that alters the gameplay quite a bit. Below each character's health bar is their assist gauge, which is split into two cells. The gauge fills when you attack, and when your attacks hit. The gauge will begin to drop if you spend time without attacking, it starts dropping rather slowly, almost as a warning, and then drains quite rapidly.

You can call your assist by pressing either L+O or L+[]. When you call your assist they will appear on the battlefield and perform an attack based on the situation and which button you pressed. If you pressed L+O they will do a bravery attack, and if you pressed L+[] they will do an HP attack, which will drain your bravery if it connects, dealing damage just as if you had landed an HP attack. Performing a bravery attack costs one cell, while performing an HP attack costs both.

The assist system very much clashes with the EX system. Whenever an assist hits a player that is in EX mode, they will be immediately kicked out of EX mode and the player owning the assist will gain stage bravery as if they had broken the opponent. Whenever a player goes into EX mode, their opponent's assist gauge will instantly empty. Whenever a player that is not in EX mode is hit by an assist, they will lose some of their gather EX force. When an assist deals damage, it does not spawn EX force to be collected. If your assist lands an HP attack while you are in EX mode, you will not get the prompt to perform your EX Burst.

There are also quite a few fancy maneuvers that can be done with assists, other than just attacking.

Assist Charge
Assist Charge is a feature built into the game to help out a player who's in a bind. If your bravery is very low, and you manage to attack an opponent who is in the middle of their own attack, you will instantly get a full cell worth of assist gauge! In addition, if you are near death (your health bar is flashing red) or you opponent has enough bravery to finish you in one blow, and you manage to hit them in the middle of their attack, your assist gauge will be FULLY CHARGED.

Assist Lock
Once an assist is called to the field, they are vulnerable to attack, just like anybody else. If an assist is hit by an attack, they will be Assist Locked. This prevents their 'master' from calling them again for a certain amount of time, and the gauge will be frozen at 0 for the duration. If an assist's attack is blocked, they will be assist locked as well. If a player manages to lock their opponent's assist while in EX mode, they will gain stage bravery as if they had broken their opponent. This means that when you summon your own assist, you need to look out for them if you want to use them again any time soon, and it means that going after your opponent's assist wouldn't be a bad idea.

Assist Change
Assist Change is a useful maneuver in which a player can use their assist to avoid an opponent's attack. If a player presses L+O or L+[] while being attacked, they will perform an Assist Change, which will instantly place their assist where they were, and launch the player into the air. If L+O is pressed, Assist Charge costs one cell, and the assist will get hit by the attack, locking it. However is L+[] is pressed, Assist Charge costs both cells, and the assist will attempt to block the attack, and if successful they will not be locked.

Assist Chase
Assist Chase is pretty simple compared to these other abilities. If an assist hits with an attack that would normally cause a chase sequence, the player will get a prompt that looks like the chase prompt, except tinted orange. If the player presses X during this prompt they will be teleported behind the opponent. This does NOT, I repeat, NOT cause a chase sequence, and the player is free to do whatever attack they wish, now that they are behind their already stunned opponent.

That's all for now, feel free to ask questions, I'll be posting up more info later.

Something I missed about Assists that I also couldn't fit in due to character limit:
Peeling
Whenever a character is wallrushed by an opponent in duodecim, they cannot be attacked by that opponent until they have recovered. Peeling is a skill that allows a player to circumvent this limitation. If you wallrush your opponent, while you might not be able to hit them, your assist can. This allows for various combos involving wallrush, followed by assist, followed by another attack of your own. This also works in reverse, if your assist wallrushes your opponent, only you can hit them, not your assist.

Just so everybody is aware I am still up for questions here. I hope to update with some more info once I've got time to think things up and do some ingame research on things. I've already clocked almost 120 hours at this point.

So you've yet to start the 000 story? Also, have you done any of the records yet? The blue text in the records section are playable events, there are two characters that are unlocked that way.

Yeah that's the first one. He's a lot more powerful than the second one imo. The second one has 150k+ HP but he has like no defense so your brave game should crush him by comparison.
