a stone of jordin. aka SOJ was removed after patch 1.10 because they were to easy to dupe. I played D2 LoD for a very long time and use to have legit SoJ's but now they arn't even in the game any more i don't think.

They were consitered the currency of magical items.
other items like the lightsaber were valued at a certian number of SOJ's
that is why they were so important that people tried to dupe them, the Diablo II online aspect had an economy. my dad managed to get a lightsaber weapon, that baby was valued at quite a bit. i think like $200 or something. there was another sword better than it though and was worth somewhere around $600 or so. i cant remember, my dad was huge into Diablo II and had collected a few dosen SOJ's, and even FOUND a lightsaber.
unfortunately i dont think he ever sold any of them, he would have made quite a bit on e-bay, sad that the economy went to hell due to hackers.
They are still around. I made a living for about 2 years with virtual game currency. Yes, I duped items, no it does not work anymore.
I ran d2forge.com (some of you may remember the annoying spam I created for advertising). Right now there are still a few people duping, but with the ladder reset so close, it's worthless to buy virutal items. I still resupply a little bit to other major resellers through people whom still dupe.
My friends were the ones that introduced all those great bugged items before the patch. A lot of those non-client spam bots were works of me and a friend of mine (thank god for md5 auth). I practicly lived in the world of d2 for about 6 months before I started selling, than I was on all day supplying people with items (my paypal account looks sweet from all those verified purchases).
Most of the d2 community is supplied by just a few people right now (as in buying items for money). They will always run the d2 economy. SOJs aren't the going rate on items anymore, everything is priced in runes.
After the reset, it'll take a while for the economy to stabalize again.
