Continuing the Fantasy that became a Love Story
While in the past, FF pretty much had a great story, over the years starting with ff8 all the story telling has been centered around a guy and a girl with exception to FF X-2 and FFTA.
They're still great stories yet very generic. It seems a far cry from all the original story telling of the past FFs.
What type of premise/story do you think could be made into a FF story to make it original again?

There are only 3 things that can be the backbone story of a game.
1. Rescuing a girl, whether it be your younger sister or a princess
2. Falling in love
3. Saving the world from total obliteration.
If you can think of anything better the developers would like to hear it. lol

well... ok, ff8 was hardcore into the love theme, but thats not to say it wasnt a big part of ff7 you know. it went deeper bc of the character backgrounds in that game. ff8 was just an onslaught of mushy love moments followed by some cool scenes. dont get me wrong ff8 is my fav game next to 7 bc of its story. it was very touching. but anyyyyway.
most rpgs are running out of clever ideas for an rpg. me and a friend of mine actually came up with a good one. you play as a series of characters, like in any other rpg, and you ahve a mission, nothing to extravagant really, but by the time the game ends, you find out that you were not the good guys after all. you were the bad guys and your actions throughout the game (which were manipulated by higher powers in the game) were in the end bad things and thus leading to an "unhappy" ending. im pretty sure that would be a first. and of course being as nobody would be satisfied (maybe even angry about the ending) you would be able to play the same game as the good guys once you beat it. it would be two games in one, and i just love the idea of not knowing you are the bad guy. how about that for a twist. ^^

Sorry seifer, that's been done before. (Great plot though)
Usually ending in a plot of what you did was right or wrong...
Stapler, most developers know alot of themes beside that already.
1. In Deception 1 and 2, the idea centered around doing thy bidding of your master or killing them. The main character had no love interest nor is she saving the world. Just getting revenge
2. In Pokemon, you were aiming to be the best trainer. It wasn't about saving the world or wooing a girl
3. In other games, it was conquering the whole land
4. Princess Maker was about raising your child to be someone. Based off Princess Maker 2, it was more like fulfilling the prophecy assigned to you by a God.
5. In Disgaia, it was about making Laharl the king of Demons
6. Another plot theme is about saving yourself instead of the world as seen in Clock Tower, Silent Hill and RE (of course RE and Silent Hill had love interests)
7. A unique plot idea I've never seen is giving a person a bunch of missions as a set requirement for graduating a sort of secret school

Lol, almost everything is being stolen nowadays.
The few game ideas (to my knowledge) that haven't been stolen are:
Harvest Moon
and
Freedom Force
