has anyone actually killed one? whenever I go up against one, it runs away nomatter what I do.

I didnt say it was a bug. I think you just need to have enough power for a 1 hit kill.

I managed to kill a chocobo once, it was indeed thanks to an Instant Kill Attack.
I killed also several times the cactuar, in 3 or 4 hits, but you have to be lucky enough to find a couargeous cactuar !

Which FF Character Are You?
Third Master Paladin with the less defeats (46 defeats and 9 escapes), lol !
IK'd : a Tonberry and a Jet consecutively on my first round (at level 89).
IK'd : me by Mishaela and Taros consecutively |

Cactuars don't run no where near as often as chocobos... I've killed quite a few cactuars

For killing the chocobo,I got ... 
something like 8000 Gil and 8000 Exp if I remember correctly.
not sure.
