 firstly you need to find one in the battle arena after this you use greens (you can get these by donating money to the brumos charity in the bank) to catch them, once you have caught 6 you can buy a stable from the rpg shop to look after your chocobos. for more info go to http://www.funender.com/finalfantasy/forums/chocobo-faq-vt16229.html

You should play the RPG more then. Its like keeping pets- you have to have cash to spare before getting one.

it depends what method for greens you are using: there's getting greens yourself by donating over 1000 gil in the bank, which can be very costly, especially if youre going for special breeds... or via the steal ability: but you have to master the thief class before getting that.
