My Zidane kicks major ass, mainly because he can never leave. Next in line is Vivi, Garnet and Steiner.

What's funny, the final boss pwned my ass the fist time around. I beat it the second time, though, even with the highest character below sixty. And Kuja never wins, I always manage to kick his ass, it's Necron that gives me the most trouble. But, since I leveled up, not no more.

got a little of topic here but there are catuars on FFIX and are really easy to find! it doesn't matter really if you on dry land or just on grassy areas they are near they black mage village (Vivi's home), and you can encounter them further on in the games but it has been a while since i played it.

I had the very same problem. As i searched the net for help I came across this thread.
In the end I had to find them on my own because of the "excellent" Official Strategy Guide for IX...
Anyway, I found them behind the exit of Fossil Roo, just southeast of Black Mage Village, (there is a mountain range between them and the village).
This was so stupid and frustrating. >_<
=Edit=
Apparently they can be found anywhere on the continent's sandy colored terrain... they just have a *VERY* low appearance rate. They sock you with a 1,000 Needles when you kill them, and are worth 1402 XP and 2 AP.
