breeding chocobos
I've been trying to raise a gold chocobo, but getting rather frustrated. I made my blue chocobo easily enough. But I can't get any further than that. I currently have:
Blue Male chocobo (class A)
Good Male chocobo (class A)
Great Female chocobo (class A)
Wonderful Female chocobo (class S)
I know how to get the carob and zeio nuts. But can someone very briefly tell me where to go from here (the FAQs I see confuse me)

Oh, you have some collections there so all you need is just some other chocobos and it'll be done. Ok, first of all you need a Green Chocobo.
Green chocobo: GREAT chocobo (female) + GOOD Chocobo (male)
MALE ---> Good Chocobo (you can get from the area near Gold Saucer - beach)
FEMALE ---> Great Chocobo (you can get from the area near Mideel)
Use Carob Nut and you'll get the Green chocobo (the one can climb mountains). You know how to get carob nuts right? Steal from Vladorakos (small square island south of Bone Village - need highwind)
Ok, after getting Green Chocobo you need to get a Black Chocobo.
Black chocobo: BLUE chocobo rank S (any sex) + GREEN chocobo rank S (opposite)
Feed both your BLUE and GREEN chocobo with er...Sylskis Green (if I'm not mistaken) until reaches its limit (20 greens should do). After that, get both GREEN and BLUE chocobo to rank S (yes, rank S - far more better chance than rank A). Mate them with Carod nuts and you'll get a Black chocobo.
After getting Black chocobo, finally you all you need is a Wonderful chocobo. You can get Wonderful (the one dashing) chocobo at er...the Ice map (Icicle area).
GOLD Chocobo: Black Chocobo rank S (any sex) + Wonderful Chocobo rank S (opposite sex)
Feed both your Black and Wonderful chocobo with Sylskis as much as you can until they reach the limit. Race them at the Chocobo Race until rank S and mate them with Zeio nut. Zeio nut can be obtained by stealing frm the Goblins at the forests on an island east of Bone Village (which I think you've already known abt it).
If you want your GOLD chocobo, don't hesitate to spend on the Sylskis greens and feed them on your Black and Wonderful chocobo cuz you won't regret it. Your new born GOLD chocobo will have great stats the more you fed greens on its parents...and after all, the parents' stats decides whether you'll get a Gold chocobo.
Good luck!  Sorry if that didn't helped much +_+...you already have a Blue chocobo and you'll need a Green one, check the sex carefully and sometimes you won't get Green if you've fed or raise your chocobo rank too much.

For some reason, the game refuses to give me a green chocobo.... I tried breeding the good male and great female initially and got another yellow chocobo. Then I fed them, same result (feeding with Carob nuts). Then I trained them both to class A and now they're giving me more blue chocobos

its a 50-50 chance. The most annoying thing is that if you do get a green chocobo, then it'll most likely be the wrong gender XD

I understand your situation, hmm  you got the chocobo's sex correct and maybe (just a theory) it got something to do with your chocobo's rank or stats. You got mostly Blue chocobos cuz your chocobo rank is at Rank A, perhaps if you leave them at Rank C or Rank B there might be a slight chance of getting a Green Chocobo.
But I can't guarantee what I'm saying is true, just its worth a try. Like Pendez said, its a 50-50 chance. I remembered when I breed one, I did the same as you...just I got more Greens than Blue lol..so I restarted a few times and got a Blue one at last.
If I'm you man I would get frustrated too, hmm why is you getting always blue....

i think it might just be that you've overkilled the ranking. You may have to get a new great or good chocobo and try with that.
it'll be that the new chocobo will be the wrong sex, thats what'll be the kick in the teeth XD

Yeah, try doing that. Get a new Great & Good chocobo (correct sex) and just level them up in the race for a bit (don't overdo till rank A). Also try not over feeding them with Greens either.
Sorry pal, its been awhile since I last touched FF7. But do try different ways (ranks, greens,etc)..I'm sure the sex is correct though.

I had his problem just today infact and I found out that all that great and good chocobo stuff doesnt matter as far as sex goes and I think you are more likely to get a chocobo of the same type and gender of one you already have because I was breeding A male great and female good for ages while I had a mal green and all was getting was more male greens with the eventual male blue and do you see the conundrum that put me. All in for this step you just need to constantly repeat breeding them but once there class b with max stats you wont be able to get yellows out of them anymore
