Yeah I heard about it on the news last week. Just some scientists trying to get some free publicity Either way I really do not worry about things like this if they do destroy the world there is nothing we can do about it.
Part of being a scientist is getting publicity. Without publicity people won't know about what they're trying to do and if people don't know what they're trying to do then they won't get the funding to do what they intend to do.
The chances of the universe being destroyed by a black hole created by this machine is less than 0.1%. As Stephen Hawking is quoted in the news article, "Collisions at these and greater energies occur millions of times a day in the Earth's atmosphere, and nothing terrible happens."

i don't know they say that an explosion the size of a small coin started everything. so to me it seems like the odds of somthing going wrong and the world going boom seems pretty high.

Exactly. So they make up a bogus "omgz the world is going to end" statement to get your attention when in fact it is not true at all
From the birth of a creature it becomes destined to die. I have no worries either way.
The possibility of this happening, well it is less likely than a Gamma Ray Burst directly hitting Earth, I do beleive.
Your first sentence implies that the universe is a living thing in it's own right. I would say it is more of a petridish for some greater being (me ) to observe and research the results of micro-organisms in living in a black mould.

first of all, they're not re-created the bing bang, only the moments AFTER the big bang.
and secondly, we won't all die. even though the possibility of a black hole is possible, if it as created, it would be microscopic and extremely unstable. AKA, it would blink out basically the moment it was made.
Theoredically.
But thereis also the theory that as it absorbs small molecules it would constantly grow until it absorbes the entire planet.
Still I don't buy into universe ending theories.
It is as logical as believing that the unverse will end in 2012 because that is when the Mayan calender will end.

i don't need the article dear, i watched it on CNN. it's a load and it's not true. Stop getting all your info from videos that some crazy over-active person made and look at the facts of basic relativity, chemistry, and physics. The black hole can only really result from a collapsing sun because that's how much power it takes to generate a stable one. Something that small will 100% not have the force to suck in enough in the time it takes to stabilize.
and yes, it is the moments after the big bang. they're only doing this so that they can get sub atomic particles. They're hoping to obtain the god molecule and dark matter from this experiment.
That's not a video by a crazy person. It's an ITN news broadcast. The Yahoo! News usually does a differently worded version of news headlines on the BBC website so the article wouldn't be all that crazy.
I confess I made a mistake. They intend to replicate the millisecond after the Big Bang.
