Battle Royale
I can't believe this idea didn't come to me sooner. This is my favorite book of all time that i've read so far.
Battle Royale is set in a not too distant future Japan. Japan and neighboring Asian countrys are a single group governed by a dictator. In an effort to instill fear into the youth of japan the educational reform act was passed, whereby every year a class of school children is randomly chosen to take part in 'The Program.' The class are taken to a confined location such a prison or island, given weapons and forced to kill each other until only one remains. Nanahara Shuya is a member of the latest class to be selected for the program, with 39 class members to compete against and several certifiable psychos among them his chances of survival are slim.
A gory read to be sure but it has a very good plot in my opinion with a strong theme of antiestablishmentarianism and takes a deep look at human nature and how people react under extreme circumstances. This book has been made into a Film and a Manga series although having read and seen all of them I prefer the novel by far, although the manga takes a much deeper look into each of the characters' backgrounds.
Has anyone else read this? Any Comments/Discussion? If you haven't read it i would seriously recomend it to anyone and everyone.
