battle field
i can't wait to get my hands on a good pc with the latest part of these series...
when i get my own good laptop i'll try to get my hands on every part made from BF 1942 to BF 2142
slight explenation: these games let you fight in wars:
BF1942: ww2
BF vietnam: war in vietnam
BF2: modern war
BF2142: future war
you have the abbility to fly, drive, walk and in the old BF1942 even sail battleships, submarines and aircraft carriers...
in other words this game rocks...
you have several battltypes...
the standard type: kill a certain amount of enemies, (thought 400 lives eacht team has) or capture all the flags on the map...
and the last part has a new one: titan mode, destroy the openents titan (huge ships so i heard and you need to first take controll over 3 missle launchers and after destroy the core of the titan.)
well here is a screenshot of the newest, BF 2142
http://www.bfnation.net/img/news/NavalLord/jul06/BF2142summer09.jpg
(my friends words after playing the demo: walker (huge machine in the back) = mental warfare)

I wasn't a fan of BF2 since their control setup is so bad. Every game that allowed you to configure your own controls since the SNES days had it so that if you wanted to change a key's function you simply entered the new key. On this game you had to delete the old one first and if you tried to assign a new function to a different key it wouldn't allow you to do so unless you dug around and found which key it was binded to already and removed it.
I got fed up with the stupid setup option and decided to use the default settings. However since I have been used to being able to totally reconfigure my controls for the past 12 years easily on all PC games I wasn't used to the controls and gave up on the game. Not to mention that I got the wrong impression with the Battlefield series... judging by the screenshots I thought the games were supposed to look realistic. My PC could push Battlefield at max settings but the game looked and felt like a cheesy Sega arcade game.
This is only my personal opinion since I have been playing so many great games over the years that I am not easily satisfied, so I am sure you may enjoy it since I tend to be picky with most games.

lol, well about BF2 i don't realy know that much... i have seen it one time last year christmass i thought it was...
so i'm not sure about those things...
i thought it looked good but i'm realy easily satisfied because my parents hardly allow me to play any game and my pc at home is to bad to play any game...
besides... my dad is a format freak, whenever the pc runs slow he formats it and it works again, so i lost quite some saved games the past months XD
but the newest BF part seemed realy promissing...
so can't wait to kick my friends butt in that game again XD
btw i'm known for a single shot in my group of friends in BF 1942
i was sitting in a sherman tank i thought it was, well my friend was in a fighter plane and he came at me shooting with machine guns and i just stood still in my tank, aimed, shot, *boom* took my friend out of the air ^_^
i was the only one capable of a shot like that and it was only at the second time i played BF XD

Haha I used to love formatting Does your dad know about Norton's Ghost software? If not he needs to buy it right now! I love it to death. That software allows you to save every single detail on your PC as a backup. So instead of formatting and having to reinstall all of the drivers and programs you like all over again, you simple run the Ghost software and it reverts everything back to when you last saved it as if you paused time. I wish it came standard for all computers.

yeah we tried that out but something went wrong...
not quite sure what, but he normally formats a lot, we even nearly had as many harddrives as letters in the alfabet <.<
but i do know you cant format windows xp properly... he has a disket with old programs of windows 95 on it...
those allow him to do it...

Yeah sounds like he installs Windows using the command prompt. I assume the motherboard doesn't have a boot from CD option in the BIOS.

it does... but windows xp doesnt realy support changing in the program like formatting...
he uses fdisk and a format from windows 95
and some others i think not quite sure anymore...
what he does know is that the files are realy difficult to lay your hands on and there made at least one copy
