Bad news for PS3
Blu-Ray disc price
sony is requiring every PS3 game to be on a Dual Layer Blu-Ray disc, now these discs are $47.99 EACH.
now the price will go down by the november PS3 launch, but not enough to make them unsignificant, by launch they will be around $25 each. so expect to pay abut $35 more for a PS3 game (thats $25 for the Blu-Ray, $10 for the gaming development price jump, all next-gen games are $60 standard now)
all the more reason to wait a year to buy the console for the Price of Blu-ray to go down (and it will, it will be about $4 in about 2-3 years, by 4 years it will be insignificant)
thoughts?
Personally i think that this blu-ray is causing more trouble than help, it will raise the cost of the console, and now it will raise the cost of each game. frankly i think if sony just went to a cheeper disc media (like DvD9 or heavin forbid, HDDvD) the console would be cheeper, and the media would be cheeper, the games would be the same, (just really long games with tons of CGI will be on 2 DvD's rather than 1) and the console will be just as powerful. if i wanted a Blu-Ray player i'd buy one.

This sucks, it's not like new games for PS2, Gamecube, and XBOX don't cost enough as it is. But at least we still have this game, lol.

It is all speculation and media attention. They said the PSP would be hundreds of dollars more than the price it launched with. It would not be a good business move to charge a lot more than your competition.

Yeah, but PSP doesn't have any really good games for it, either. I mean, you know you suck when you ruin a good game like Metal Gear into a card-based game on the PSP.

I'm not to bothered, at the moment game is selling Xbox 360 games for £50, with an estimate pricetag for PS3 games being £45.
If it goes up a little then they can survive without much difficulty.
And Blueray holds 40% more than the HD-DVD, thats a whole load of extra features.

25gb/15gb, yah 40%, but its only true if you say that HD-DvD holds 40% less information than Blu-Ray,
i seriously doubt that with the price of the discs it will be "a little" most likely it will be about $15-$20 extra just because fo the disc.

i agree, the only reason i would want a PSP is for the hacking possiblilities, like the emulators and linking up to the PC/360.
the games dont interest me, but the semi-illigal activities do.

lol, i remember sooooo many people (mostly nintendo or sega fans) saying the same thing before the ps2 came out, but replace the words 'blu-ray' with 'dvd'. I was one of them. And how well did the ps2 do?
How could blu-ray be causing more trouble than help, it hasn't come out yet!?

saying its 40% less works because it IS
but the other way around isint 40% larger, its actually 66% larger.
see how that works?
15/25=.6 (so thus its 40% smaller)
25/15-1.666 (so thus its 2/3'rds or 66% larger)

its raising the cost of making the PS3 by $200
its rasing the cost of making each disc by about $30 (say about $17 of that $47.99 is just profit)
thats why i think that.

How can it be increasing the console price by $200 when there IS no console price prior to the installation of the blu-ray drive?
and like I said, everyone said the same thing about the ps2's choice for using dvd's, in 1999

no no, i know and it does make sense, but i dont think most ppl got that and it reminded me of my stat teacher doing that (that -> what i said)

um. there will be a console price.
and the cost of the hardware will affect the cost of the console.
just how it works, sony has said that they are planning on losing money to get the console out. but they can only sell it for so much less before it gets to a point where it could destroy the whole company if something goes wrong.

you know having a preview look at the ps3 games mm its not that much different with ps2 games in graphic wise Haine thought that they said it was gonna be better!
but anyways you know if they didn't use blu-ray there wouldn't be a point in launching a new console right? (^^) like if they didn't use something new then what's the point of making a new console for gamers? might as well just stick with ps2 right? so all in all Haine's thoughts on this is that new things will always cost more and its nice to have a change. As for cost wise well lol just wait till the price goes down, besides for the first year or so most of the games for a new console aren't that great anyways (unless its a remake of a good game) so there's really no harm in waiting (^^)
