agression and violence.
Today i was playing a MMORPG with my brother, and my dad came into my room and saw me playing it, all he could see was the ammount of monsters i killed, saying the game was extremely violent...
later on we had a discussion about it, he's saying games like those create a violent behaviour amongst people, music of these days do the same...
loads of people from the last generation claim that the things we think are normal, movies, games, music, is create violence, hate agression etc...
i want your opinions on this fact, do you see it happening to people around you, maybe yourself?
i know we had these sorta discussions during the university shootings, but i want it more cleared out...

i think that it depends on the person if you are not violent by nature your not going to suddenly become so b/c you played grand theft and shot everyone you see but at the same time if u do have a violent nature and become addicted with games like that then yes I do think it can make u more violent. for me i use it to relive anger if i am p(*( off i will go kill some people make my self feel better.

i stand with the last part, that's why i wanted people's oppinion...
when i play a game when i'm angry, upset, anything, shooting people in a video game, doing stunts with airplanes etc gives a sort of calmth to me.
it helps me get my mind back in place sometimes, and forget about the upsetness, and it doesn't make me angrier, because i actually got to kill the * in the game, lol
a game usually only generates anger when you can't pass a part...
but it doesn't make me wanna go out, beat someone up, instead, i play more till i actually beat the guy...
when i can't stand someone in real life, video games usually draw away the attention from it, relieving myself from any emotion i have...
i can understand how people will think "violence creates violence" but i haven't noticed anything of it myself...

I think part of the reason why people blame games is b/c they don't want to have to take the blame for there bad parenting you know how many of thous kids that did a school shooting started out hurting small animals and not only that the number of guns and stuff they had in there room a good parent would have noticed something wrong before it got to that point.

i am not a scientist, but i have never seen definitive & widespread proof showing a correlation between modern media & a rise in violent behaviour in children, adolescent, & young adults
that being said, i have witnessed a rise in known violent behaviour (physically & psychologically) over the last 10 years

I personally believe that it does both, but, as erik said, there are certain people who have the violent tendency and just use this to plan what they do.

to the poll question itself: no
i would say that media channels can nurture degrees of agression, however they don't create them

personally i think violent video games do just the opposite of creating violence. i think those of us from this generation have become more desensitized to violence and aggression. Much in the same way the general populations attitude toward things like drug use and sexual promiscuity has evolved from the views and idea's of the previous generations ideas.

violence will always be there,
children are impressionable,
but someone our age... games are just that games,
at worst they will give us a way to commit violence, or method,
but the violence will still be there!

so in general you guys are saying: "If a violent person wants to do bad, he'd do it anyway, no matter if he has played video games or not."
does anyone know why people think media, music, games create violence, even though the ones actually watching, playing, listening to it say the exact opposit?

maybe because they are not talking from a viewpoint that actually understands the situation, they just have their preconceived ideas and stereotypes of what violenent games draw out of people.
i entirely agree with the majority of viewpoints here...its not a factor that causes violence, but a relief from it, and its bad parents to blame; parents who dont want the finger pointed at them.
i go out of my way to find the most intense torture movies on the net or in films to get the kick out of violence that i want (and with games such as manhunt) but i have never engaged in any act of violence at all.
however, being a final fantasy forum i think we would all have a similar viewpoint because we all play games etc. lol

well, i was hoping for some parents that visit this place to reply too, to see their point of view on this, cause it usually does seem to be the issue whenever something bad seems to happen among young people (teenagers, kids etc)

That is so stupid you can't blame the videogames its so easy for the parents to blame everything but themselves I hate that I've played violent videogames all my life and I never once got a bat and beat someones skull in or shot someone
