It really depends. If they've got a decent number of credits already accumulated, then yes, they can get away with taking many classes off. In fact, in some schools anyways, if you do things systematically and the right way, you can get away with not even having a senior year.
I think I had 3 free classes out of 7 during the second semester of my senior year. And since I had them all lined up at the end of the day, I could just leave early. In fact if they caught you wandering the halls when you had no classes left for the day they would actually kick you out.

Do US highschools generally mix people of different grades into the same homeroom? and why wouldn't a teacher have their homeroom in their own classroom. holding it in someone elses classroom makes no sense.
Well i can only speak from my experience in english schools. I'm guessing homeroom is the same as forms in english schools. e.g. In year 10 of school i was in form 10-D we all met at the beginning of each day with our form tutor and had registration together and then afterwards moved on to our own classes. everyone in a given 'form' were in the same year (in this example year 10, hence the designation 10-D, when we came back next year for the last year of school we were 11-D)
In the highschool I attended, our homeroom class changed every year, and I never heard of a case where the teacher was in their own room during homeroom. I don't know why they had the teachers in different rooms, or why they had us change every year, but yeah...
As far as grades sharing homerooms, I'm pretty sure the school I attended did that as well. I remember half of my homeroom being empty for the last two weeks of my Junior year because the Seniors leave earlier.

i always took all my class hours. Didn't even have to. There was just too much i was interested in. ^^
And yeah, we mix homeroom. but... there really isn't a homeroom so much as a study hall. We call it both though. some people have 2 study halls (i've seen it before).
When i was a freshy, i made a whole mess of friends in the senior year in my study hall. ^^
and juniors aren't let out early where i went, just the seniors (because they graduated).
Juniors did get a few more shortened days and a few days off though from all the testing.

but i like learning.
i took spanish and french (though that's another story), i was a library assistant (in charge of short story and graphic novel section, as well as the other random jobs Mr. H gave me to do in a day). took a C++ class and a web design class too.
So I'm considering making another character for this RP. I'm kind of wondering if anyone has a problem with me playing two characters. I don't mind if you guys don't want me to, just want to make sure it's alright.
