Abuse
I want to know what everyone's view is on this subject....
I was abused as a child badly, by my adoptive parents. Mentally and physically.....
I've never done drugs, but I know alot of people who abused drugs and I saw what it did to them...
Same as domestic violence/abuse...it can tear a home apart....
Abuse in general has an effect on those around them regardless in my opinion
Is it ever a reasonable thing to resort to?
(forgive me I'm no good at creating topics)

To me there is a different in giving a child a spanking and abusing the child now if a kid is hollerin and whinin and throwing things I think a parent should be able to spank the kid but if a person gets a kid down for no reason and beats the hell out of it then thats abuse

i feel that a lot of the time verbal abuse to a child is far more damaging than physical. i feel its always going to exist, much like racism. i wish both would be abolished but i dont feel they ever will.
back to the mental abuse, its a terrible thing. i wish "parents" had to take a test or something before they could have kids. then a lot of problems with kids would vanish.

Yeah mental abuse is the lasting unseen scar
My parents told me they hated me alot, and don't remember if they ever told me they loved me
Knowing this, it hurts
Words have more of a lasting effect on a person

completely agreed, im so sorry for your experience. once again, proof that some people just arent meant to be and should not be allowed to be parents.
i mean good parents do things wrong to, but with all the knowledge we have access to these days about preventing stupid people from procreating and about how to take care of children and even the psychological development of children. its all out there just waiting to be understood by soon to be parents who have 9 months of prep time to get ready to take care of another life.
another life! its so crazy to think that we have the ability to create life and we can even protect it with common sense.
what surprises me elphy is the amount of things you have to go through to adopt a child. one would think that psychological testing would be done on future parents. i know they do check up after like 6 months or something normally but the whole system is shot to hell. ugh.
we should just rename the forum to "the sad state of the planet" lol. i can see that we are all gonna be really sick of the world by the time this ug gets going lol.

Yeah I don't think they did any psychological tests on my adoptive parents
But they were loving according to the adoption agency when they first came and visited and stuff....I think in my toddler years things went bad for them and their families....so they would blame things on me :/
It is sad that common sense isn't so common anymore, common sense turned into ignorance
Yeah we'll be sick of the world in about *looks at watch* now

we'll either end up sick of it, or more enraged to do something about changing it.
I've endured my share of abuse, verbal, mental, and physical. It makes me feel good to know that i'll never subject my children, or anyone else in this fashion.
as for the subject of drug abuse, i've seen drugs do terrible things to people. and i've seen people who were able to cope with their dependency and live a great life.

what really makes me angry is when parents are found abusing their kids what happens? the kids are taken away to a foster home or whatever and they get put right back into the same old crappy system that screwed them once before. i dont even know what the penalties for abuse are but i would have no qualms about making them worse right off the bat.

I wasn't put into a foster home or anything because my abuse was never reported by anyone...
I had to deal with more mental abuse in my later teen years till I moved out on my own (was kicked out)....
But I doubt the results of being moved around out of a broken home will be the any different....

a lot of people say this same with addictions and the such but when push comes to shove a large percentage do the same thing because its become part of them and they cant handle things. this isnt across the board or course but ive seen many studies proved time and time again about this kind of destructive personality. its gets passed down from generation to generation.
i wouldnt put you in that category troop. its mostly people that dont have a firm grip on reality.
maybe we can use this forum to spread common sense and a greater understanding of the world and its intricate workings....
big dreams i suppose.

Yeah I suppose alcoholism is considered an addiction aswell from my understanding
And that's a genetic addiction I've heard of that runs in my (blood) family.....
Honestly if we were to try and spread common sense and a greater understanding, there are always going to be those people out there to shoot it down by being the ones with no commonsense but ignorance

power in numbers is all we can hope for and sadly we are on the losing end of that.
and really anything can be an addiction in a negative way. say you like to skydive. and say you start to do it so much bc of the rush and the adrenaline that goes to your brain from that activity. you suddenly have to do it more and more just to get the rush and then you are changing your life completely just to make more time for that activity. its all chemicals. you can be addicted to love and it can ruin your life. its crazy how we as humans are so suseptable to "evil" inside ourselves. taking psych and bio and sociology were the best classes ive had and i wish i took them back in high school (to the same degree of knowledge) maybe people from my/our generation wouldnt be so messed up if we all got this in us before we started to hate the educational system.

Yeah I agree
I didn't have the liberty of taking those sort of courses to understand more about the human mind, why they think the way they do or do the things they do
I never went to a therapist either, I know alot of people who say they want to "study" me and see how I am after my bad past.....
It would be interesting I think....

well i mean so much still has to be done to really know how the brain works. it really is a miracle in every sense of the word that we as a species came to be. and of course what we are capable of. great things and terrible things.
but no matter what, id like to believe that no matter where you are from or what kind of past you have, you have the greatest of potential to better yourself and those around you. if we all had that kind of mentality i think we'd be living in a very different place and we wouldnt need to have topics like this in forums. just topics about giant fields of flowers and cuddly teady bears. (p.s. someone make that topic for fun later lol)

(haha I'll do it)
Yeah the human mind is quite the mystery, since it is the human mind studying the human mind, we may not decipher it's way of working for a very very very long time
Maybe....
And yes about the potential of bettering yourself: I hope I have come out as a good person despite my past, I'm not suicidal, or a cutter as many with an abusive past are, I hope I am a nice person, but in ways I feel I have alot to improve on...then again, no one is perfect. lol
