A fast way to get through those long battles
A lot of the posters here sound like they helped developed FFXIII since you guys offer great advice I wanted to share this tip for less experienced people who may find it annoying fighting enemies with a lot of HP or defense in chapters 11 - 13. I use Light, Fang, and hope and I created a Paradigm called "Espionage". I have Lightning as a and Fang as Saboteurs, and Hope as a Synergist. It only takes the team a few seconds hit the enemy with a lot of status effects, while Hope is casting Haste on everyone. I then switch to Relentless Assault and any normal encounter takes no longer than 30 - 60 seconds at most (not applying to the later enemies of chapter 13). I am sure most of you guys already know this, but I was annoyed with Chapter 12 and once I tweaked this setting I am flying through every battle now.

I know what you mean in that regard, FuN!
I've found myself enjoying the Synergist role more and more the longer I got in the game (currently I'm in Chapter 11). My favorite team these days consist of Sazh, Fang (or Lightning) and Vanille. Most of the Paradigms I use only have Sazh as a Synergist, simply because he does wonders to your team when he begins casting his spells.
With other games of the Final Fantasy-series, I've always preferred to be "in the action" (a.k.a. like playing Commando or Ravager in FFXIII, where you know you're actively dealing damage) but I've developed a strange taste for just watching a spell-pumped Fang go berserk on the enemies - and mostly with great result ^^ And as you point out, the Saboteurs are great when dealing with big enemies - especially when you have two in the field on the same time.

Probably because in XIII just about every enemy is affected by multiple status effects. In previous versions there were many enemies that were never effected by the spell which wasted a turn.

Agreed fun. I use the same paradigm you use as well. Id like to offer this to your tip as well. Switching out Light for Vanille, you can use her death spell/ultimate attack, to great results. Of Between just two sab's you can stagger an enemy pretty easily, which makes it easier to nail the death spell, combine that with her belladonna/marlboro wand, and then the fact that you have a second sab in the party, again, raises the chances for success.

I also agree with the advice given. Note that some of the toughest enemies in the game are still vulnerable to status effects. I just killed an adamantoise in 43 seconds (shrouds, summon, dismiss, cast deprotect, deshell, slow, imperil and curse while sending its chain way up, change to cerberus after selecting Army of One when around 700%....).
the power of status effects (this was beating an adamantoise). Sorry about the bad quality, had to take it with my phone.

Thanks Sirus. Vanille's loud moaning makes me not want to choose her with my party though

I know, I know. Everytime I use that summon, my brother pipes up with a couple of his own adult comments about the sound lol. It can be a great help though, and you can actually use the death spell to kill Neochu for a genji glove, so... yeah thats great

Im using Lightning, Fang and Hope in this part of the game as well. My only trouble is Hope does not have the ability Haste at the moment which I could really do with learning. Ive also only got Fang learning the Sabotuer role so probably lacking a few of these abilities.

Has anyone else noticed that beyond the main trees of the characters you can find some really good abilities? seriously, its worth checking out.
F'r example, hope as a saboteur only learns -ga effects, which really helps when grinding sacrifices. and fang as a synergist can actually learn bravera and faithra, which i though only the annoying sanctum girls could do.
anyway, with fang and hope as saboteurs, and lightning as ravager, farming gil really only takes a few seconds per fight. i know its not instantly worth remembering, but trust me, its an effective method.

Yeah once Hope learns the Haste spell he always casts it first when he is in the member role so that really works well.

Indeed. I know Light is a good character and all, but for grinding I actually use Fang/Vanille/Hope. Hope as yall have pointed out can nail ya with Haste, and it really takes like 3 seconds to get it on everyone. If you know youre going against something tough you can start the fight as Sab/Sab/Syn, and do some major debuffing and buffing, before switching to any number of other paradigms to really blow through the fight. And this set up gives you a great healer team too. Switching Fang to Sentinel, you then can have hope and Vanille recover a team in a matter of seconds, before enemies even can think of having a chance to to lose their stagger gauge. Yeah you can do that with Light too, but it takes longer to get back to the brutal beating the enemy deserves

Personally I use the stereotypical Light, Hope and Fang. I usually have Fang as a Saboteur while the other 2 are ravagers. When I have a high stagger, I change to commando, but the vast majority of enemies don't make it that far.
I may as well say that if are at the point I am (trying to raise enough gil to get every item, weapon and accessory in the game for Treasure Hunter trophy), quick kills are pretty much essential for your own sanity (need about 15 million gil..... platinum ingots sell for 150k and don't even drop half the time.)
I've done all the accessories and all of Lightning's weapons, halfway through Sazh now.

I agree with ya, about the time thing. The quicker, the better. Even for time though for some reason beyond me, even with Ultima weapon on Light, I still seem to finish fights so much faster with Fang/Vanille/Hope in Com/Sab/Syn. If I come across something a with physical resistant that isnt always the case of course, but thats when I can flip out Fang for sab, and Vanille for ravager. Your strategy is just as sound as mine, in the end it always comes down to what youre comfortable with, and what works for you.
Heck, most times I play an RPG, I have an awesome and often times weird, finishing party that my friends cant understand. They see what I can do with em but no one is able to emulate it, heh.

I suspect most of the difference might be that I either don't bother buffing, or I use shrouds when I need it.
I came across a possible way of speeding up the Treasure Hunter trophy, but I still need about another 1.5 million gil to pull it off.
For anyone trying for platinum, do not farm CP, you are wasting your time. By the time you get every weapon and accessory, you will have more than enough CP for Master Seal.

Me, I use Light, Sazh, and Vannielle, sab/syn/com, then off to rav/rav/rav, and usually finishing up with com/com/com/ (yes, i made vannielle a commando ) if i run into any problems i'll just switch to med/syn/med for a bit, then go back to the full on attacks. just something awesome about Sazh's guns when he's all perked out. specially if he's using his blitz!
