A Dwemer Tale (Story and char)

Deus ex machina aut machina deum?
(The title reads in Latin: God of the machine or the Machine God? And yes, there is a meaning to the distinction between the two. Wink )
Terms to note:
Black Soul: Human soul.
White Soul: Non-human soul
Soul Gem: gem used to hold souls very important in any enchanting or magi-tech endeavor.

You are a resident of the kingdom of Dwemervia, a magical plane of existence created outside of Nirn by the great tonal architect of old, Kagrenac. You are most likely a Dwemer, or, at the very least, you once were. Dwemer means "deep elf", and when their people dwelled in the plane of Nirn, despite their average stature, they were nicknamed "dwarves" because of their complex underground cities. Long ago, the Dwemer fought a war with another race of elves, and despite their advanced technology and numbers, were defeated and would have faced annihilation by the hands of the Chimer if Kagrenac had not used an ancient artifact, Lorkhan's Heart to create Dwemervia. Lorkhan's heart was left in Nirn, but Kagrenac still had hope that it could be recovered. He built a strange device called the Singer at an alter right in front of the throne. It was Kagrenac's hope that in their carelessness looting, that the Chimer would destroy Lorkhan's Heart. The Heart is the heart of one of the gods (called Aedra by the Dwemer and the races of Nirn), and therefore is eternal. If destroyed, it would try to return to it's owner in the immortal plane. The Singer was designed to fool the Heart into thinking that Dwemervia was that plane. Unfortunately, the Heart never came. It was thought that Kagrenac had failed and the Heart has almost been forgotten in the hundreds of years that have passed since Dwemervia was created... until now.

In the hundreds of years since Dwemervia was created, their steam and oil powered technology has not advanced*.The "Calling", the old Dwemer ability of telepathy, was weakened to the point of only being able to be used to talk to people who would be witihin voice range anyway except for a few exceptional people who can still use the "Calling" as it was originally used. Most of note is Grand Prince Psvmir himself. The loss of the human and Orc servants that they had in Nirn along with the loss in the "Calling" ability that was central to organization made it a full time job just to keep the technology that they have maintained. Having no other sentient races in the plane with them, the blades and axes of old have become dull and the Steam Centurions (giant steam golems) lie dormant, barely, slowly, but surely becoming worse and worse for ware. But one year ago, the Grand Prince Psmvir announced that new technology had become available that does not require steam or oil to run it. In the demonstration, a row of extremely humaniod golems moved in line swiftly, preforming coordinated movements and acrobatic feats that no other golem has ever been able to do. They are extremely lifelike, even having male and female forms in some of them, but they are clearly made of Dwarven Metal and the joints are clearly made of some new type of Dwarven gyroid. Their faces are always in the form of a proud smile...

Psvmir has given these new golems the name "Golmer", saying that they are so flawless in design and execution that they are "golem elves". At the same time, though not noticed as much because of this great achievement has lifted the spirits of the Dwemer people, the jails and prison mortality rate has reportedly skyrocketed. Those who have noticed have become paranoid of doing the slightest of crimes. Stories of families of criminals hearing of their family member's death on the day that their family member was to be released from prison are becoming much too common. Still, increasingly more and more people have been arrested for "religious crimes". To Dwemervia, that means having any sort of religion at all. Before Dwemervia was created, the Dwemer were a people who questioned the gods and felt that they were merely powerful beings feigning godhood and felt that godhood of the power of these gods could be created by their own hands. After Dwemervia was created, however, more and more people started to say that this was "Mother Mara's Mercy" for their irreverence of the gods and that they were forced to split off from the rest of the peoples of Nirn because Mara found their irreverence to be toxic to the faithful, but they were spared in the hopes that after being isolated from the others and knowing that loneliness, they would see the light. Most Dwemer are still so assured in Dwemer superiority that they think that it is better to be isolated from the races they had known in Nirn and think that the Mara cultists are laughable because they believe in such "silly things". They were tolerated, but almost immediately after the Golmer were introduced to Dwemervia, the government started cracking down on any religion except for the Order of the Machine. The only other thing in the way of a religion is a group of Dwemer scholars and scientists who believe that they should follow along the religious path that they had before: try to find a way to construct their own god. Prince Psvmir is the current leader of the Order of the Machine along with being leader of the kingdom.
*Technology level: Middle ages Fantasy steampunk/magi-tech.

Today is the day that the Heart heeds the sounds of the Singer and comes to Dwemervia. The entire world is about to change. The first change that will happen will be in a place that you wouldn't expect: In a small, unassuming scene where criminals are being escorted by guards to a factory in forced labor to carry heavy materials for the mages and tinkerers to use to make repairs to Golmer. A line of Golmer stand at the end of the factory awaiting orders. A group of tourists from the rural areas of Dwemervia also have accidently stumbled into the scene. You are here, in this scene, at this time. And who of these are you? Are you a criminal being escorted? Are you a guard? A mage? A tinkerer? A tourist? Or are you one of the Golmer, waiting for an order, soon to find that you no longer have to take them...?

Character Stuff:
Name:
Gender:
Race: (Golmer or Dwemer)
Profession: (Mage, guard, thief, priest/priestess of Mara, pretty much any profession you can think of thanks to those tourists that stumbled in)
Religion: (Cult of Mara, Order of the Machine, None)
Biography:
Can you do the "Calling": (Yes or no Limit 2 "Yes" answers in this RP first come first serve)

Name (and just a note with Golmer, the "name" is the name they will choose to go by once they gain free will in the RP): Svia Psfen
Gender: Female
Race: Golmer
Profession: Rebel Golmer
Religion: Order of Mara
Biography: Formerly a priestess of Mara, Svia remembers very little of her life before except for her belief in Mara and her divine blessing, and even that has lessened; formerly she had become so committed to Mara, that she did not even resist arrest or try to hide from the public eye, but now she is angry because of what the Grand Prince and his court have done to her and those others around her. Because she openly worshiped Mara, she was arrested and then converted into a Golmer. As a non-violent priestess, she would have caused no problem to the status quo of Dwemervia, but now that they have converted her into a Golmer and the process has made her forget her pacifism, they will soon come to find the gravity of their mistake...
