So many surprises in today’s matches. Korea above expectations, Greece below expectations, Argentina way below expectations.

I really enjoyed England vs. USA. England’s performance was amazing, except the stupid mistake from Green. USA had a slow rhythm and was just super lucky to end up with a tie.

Well, Capello is also to be blamed. He announced the names of the players for the match just two hours before it begun.

I guess Green won't be playing anymore.

Maybe but he sort of redeemed himself when he saved a shot and then it hit the post so we'll just have to wait and see

Goal goal goal goal! Germany is dominating Australia (sorry Stappy). 4-0 at the time of the posting.

But the red card was a bs call on the refs behalf. At most it was a yellow card. While the ball was just being kicked away, it didn't look like he was sliding in to hurt the other player, even though he was doing it from behind. Now he is out for the game (Tim C.)

I am also looking forward to the Brazil game.

My co-worker is looking forward to the Italian game on Monday at 8:00am here. So I put a Brazil flag on his desk!

Korea has been really good for a long time, but this time they are really really good. Wink

Germany was freaking awesome! No one expected Germany to be this good after announcing Ballack's injury and making a big deal out of it. The best game so far, even though one sided. I agree that the referee did make some strange decisions, but I really enjoyed it overall. Very smooth, fast playing from German along with great tactics!

I was actually cheering for Australia because I felt sorry for them since Italy kicked them out by a "mistake" in 2006 lol.

The other two games today were boring…

I am looking forward for tomorrow’s matches. Japan, Holland… and Italy. I hope they go against all expectations and prove me and everyone wrong. It’s 8:30pm here Smile

I think group G is the strongest of all. Brazil, North Korea and Portugal. I am really looking forward to that!

Yeah Germany was doing something others were not, and that is most of the time they actually brought the ball up the field or conceded some of the field to allow a stronger approach. Most of the other games I watched were they'd try and clear the ball by booting it down the field then play catchup running after it.

The plays at the net were fantastic as well, throwing fakes and just dominating the Aussie defense.

I think the best play was (please disregard anything that doesn't quite make sense term wise as futbol us not a sport I watch regularly). (Just before the 3rd goal I believe) The best play was when there was a guy just outside the box and 2 Germans in the box I believe. The 1 German, forward I going to say, (whom looked to be in the best scoring position) let the ball roll under him to the 2nd German who was unguarded try for the attempt but it went just over the net. (Hoped that made sense?)

Such a wicked play!

I'm surpised North Korea has a team in it. Though the team has good odds for it. Didn't they almost take the cup (quarter finals) when it was in Germany? Like 2-4 years ago? They came out strong.

Yeah, Germany brought new techniques to the pitch, others, like Australia and Greece played with classical, very predictable techniques. I think I know which play you’re talking about and I agree that it probably was the best. I tried to find it on youtube, but couldn’t.

Italy played much better than I had anticipated. They weren’t that good, especially in the first half, but I am glad to see some improvement. Marchisio was terrible, he wasted so many chances and the team only improved when Camoranesi came in the second half. Also, Cannavaro improved a bit, he has been absolutely terrible with Juventus this last season. However, the Paraguayan goal was mostly his fault, not Buffon’s. I thought Buffon didn’t play in the second half because of this, but apparently it was because of an injury he has and he said that he will not play in the next game if he doesn’t feel at his best. Sad

I also enjoyed Holland vs. Denmark, good game, was cheering for Holland of course after what Denmark did to Italy.

I don’t think Japan and Cameron reached expectations, especially Cameron. They both weren’t that good and the match kind of boring.

Brazil’s game today was kind of boring as well. I expected much better from a team of their size. I especially expected much from Kaka, his performance has been declining ever since he left Milan, maybe even before. I actually think Korea should have won, or at least ended up with a tie, considering all the effort they put into it. I don’t think Brazil will go far if they keep this performance.

I also expected better from Portugal. Ronaldo’s arrogance has finally started to get in his way. He should find a career in Hollywood instead of football. Ivory Coast should have won. They played wonderfully. They just needed a goal to complete their perfection.
I expect those two teams to beat Brazil and qualify.

I freaking love football! Very Happy

I think that is quite an understatement! As for player names I don't really have a clue but for teams, Brazil was said to have a more defensive playing style now as opposed to the aggressive style they are known for.

My co-worker says that Italy always starts out slow and builds up as the tournament goes on. I'll have to believe him as he watches football a lot more than I do. It could be though as you said since they swapped out players in the second half. I did read in the newspaper that Italy was playing terribly the first half of that match though.

Kinda spoiler Swiss Vs. Spain

Hidden:
I was surprised Switzerland beat Spain. I only saw the end goal count but I should watch that game as I have a couple very good friends who are Swiss.

Italy is the one with defensive style. I think Brazil has always had a more forward one.

Spain played bad, yea, but I didn’t expect much from them since the team has been declining since quite some time now. Lots of surprises! I am also surprised that South Africa’s performance was this bad. Uruguay played very well. I really enjoyed it, even more than Spain's game!

Its not a surprise Spain lost, with Torres off form (after the injury, damn it Liverpool..what have you done to Torres). I've been routing for Spain since 1998 World Cup, I know they play good football but they never win the World Cup. They'll struggle with teams like Swiss, Ireland, Greece, etc. Though I wish they break this 'world cup curse' this year. Smile

Still got a lot of matches in the group phase yo, too early to say Spain is going out!

Speaking of matches, I've really enjoyed the match between Argentina vs South Korea. Pretty intense and funny sometimes.. (Heinze's diving). I don't actually support Argentina but I enjoy their play, gotta say they play pretty good.

Bad luck for Germany huh, well like I said - still early for group matches. Argh, I really wanna watch the true play from Brazil...are they really keeping all their strategies for the finals?

I'm not that much into this version of football, since Australia already has Aussie rules football, rugby league and rugby union. Soccer plays 3rd fiddle. But I am a sports nut so I can't ignore it.
But I've seen a few games, I wasn't really going for Australia though but everyone here is irate, and there's already 30,000 odd people who have a joined a facebook group "Oh, you're Aussie, red card for you" or something XD

As of right now I'm excited because New Zealand are 1-0 up on Italy, who everyone hates down here still lol, Lara was right, from 2006. Not just that, but there are also a lot of Italian-Aussies here, (albeit they are now 3rd gen Aussies) who still claim to be Italian so lol.

But I probably won't watch much after Australia lose their 3rd game lol, mostly because the horns are annoying.

Italy played like crap!

Marchetti and Cannavaro are on the top of the list for the worst players. We’re very unlucky to lose Buffon at this critical time. I almost had a heart attack when NZ almost scored in the final 10 minutes. People over here are really pissed off!

Unfortunately, all European teams are going downhill. I can’t believe how bad these teams are playing. South American teams are glowing! The entire European content is losing its reputation and eventually will if they don’t do something about it.

I am almost watching every match, that’s when I am not working.

Kaka gone! That is so bullsh*t call by ref! The Ivory Coast player ran into him, falls down, holds his face. The ref isn't even looking at them and then give Kaka a Yellow, then because he had so many yellows a Red! That is what ruins football:
