New Mechanic or Bug?
I am seeing fairly frequently, that when I select a spell to cast in battle, instead of casting a spell I will get the message that I raised my shield in a defensive stance. This was a minor annoyance in the beginning. Now It is starting to get me killed and I find it flat out infuriating.

It would be a bug.
it should say "Alcedes casts ... wrongly and the spell fails" or something like that.
Try unequiping and re-equiping your shield.

its an IE issue. I relogged using Firefox and havent seen the issue since.
