When I first read this I thought you may have been joking. However I viewed the site (took a while to load, that flash must be 10MB heh) and it looks for real. I hope that is just the name in Japan or something, because Rev is cool.

Yes, I realize that when viewing the site that it was for real Man that sucks, Nintendo must have a totally different mindset when it comes to things that can make them gain more money and fans. How many cool people want to have a "Wii" console. Some of the non gamers would have probably bought a Rev just because it sounded cool. I am only speaking in general, all I care about are the good games.

i would agree, nintendo is kinda going a totally different path than Sony or Microsoft are.
but i think its awesome, and the interesting thing is, i want a Wii,
its a Next Gen console. but with just Next Gen ideas, not Next Gen Graphics. and its also a "MUST BUY" on my list
the question for me isint "if" its "when" and that "when" will be when the first Revolution Zelda game comes out.
its also interesting as i dont see teh Wii as a gaming console, i see it as a gaming addition. so you would get the PS3, or the 360, and THEN a Revolution on top of it.

oh my god. There is no way something called 'Wii" can be sold in Australia. It will seriously have to be called "The Nintendo" or something. I would never be seen dead saying "Can I buy a wii?"
It's the single stupidest for a name EVER. I'm not kidding the name is a joke.

This is a perfect example of why drunk people should never name anything. I figured they would change the name (remember the Nintendo "Dolphin"?), but good grief. That won't sell even in the US. Nintendo's target audience is children, and I can't see many kids persuading their parents to "buy me a Wii!"

lol, here's an article pretty much describing Australia's reaction to the name
http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=4346
Or for those too lazy...
"Since I have arrived at home, I’ve been thinking about what possible reason Nintendo could have for naming their latest console after bodily waste. Of course, their real intention was some touchy-feely crap about “we”, but surely someone in their team realised that this name stinks. Then again, it’s marketing, and you don’t need a brain to work in marketing – just a lust for money. The biggest problem in marketing is “groupthink”, whereby members of a team will conform to popularist opinion, which (in my experience of marketing) is usually the first idea that comes up. Obviously nobody at Nintendo felt like challenging the name.
I normally stay away from making predictions about market trends, other than for my own personal use, but I do think that this name will really hurt Nintendo – change it, change it now. In substitute for continued witty diatribe about Nintendo’s naming conventions (i.e. even more wee jokes, but I must mention Matt Cassamassina’s “Nintendo fans find Wii hard to swallow”), I’ve decided to get some celebrity and industry reactions to the name of Wii." and then some funny pictures...
lmao, wii

Ah I remember the Dolphin! I agree I would have bought a Rev but I will not buy a Wii. Nintendo makes all of their money from the handhelds since they know the Japanese and little kids in other Countries will continue to buy their consoles. The fact they are disappointing millions of other gamers doesn't really matter to them. That is sad since they make a quality product and could easily be the best console every generation. Imagine if the N64 was CD based and had Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 in 64bit graphics.

|
My country lay within a vast desert. When the sun rose into the sky, a burning wind punished my lands, searing the world. And when the moon climbed into the dark of night, a frigid gale pierced our homes. No matter when it came, the wind carried the same thing. Death. But the winds that blew across the green fields of Hyrule brought something other than suffering and ruin. I coveted that wind, I suppose." ~ Ganondorf. |
