Debit Cards!

So, I was playing the game for once, and I went to the inn and said "Crap all my money's in the bank" so I went to the bank and grabbed some cash. Then I leveled up and said, "Woohoo time to buy new equipment!" and I tried, and, lo and behold, all my money was in the bank. So I went and grabbed some cash, and it ended up not being enough so I had to go and grab some more...so I thought, why not suggest something real banks do! Could we apply for debit cards? XD That way we could both have our money in the bank accruing interest and be spending it! Shopaholic's worst/best dream! And I could see a justifiable arguement for like a debit tax? So we had to pay some percentage more if we used the card instead of cash?

I don't know why not..I dunno Fun's specific code and I'm too lazy to go look at source codes to figure it out (but may if I get super bored) but all it would entail is adding something to the effect of

Gil = player'sgil
Bank = player'sgilinbank
price=price

if gil>price

then gil-price=newgil

endif

if gil<price

then bank-price(10%)=newbank

endif

if newgil<0 AND newbank<0

then "Sorry, you can't afford this."

endif

And yes I know this isn't html. Its a distorted form of basic. XP But the same premise applies and I don't remember html in my half asleep state..

That not a distorted form of BASIC that is just a logic statement. A lot of languages use if statement's or in the case of linux scripting "case" statements.

I think the game might be invoked using php scripts but I dunno? It is definitely not html....

Briefly glanced at source code of the battle arena and it is quite ingenious what happens! There is stuff going on server side that you cannot see (thanks to php). I don't want to try and "hack" it (figure out what is taking place server side), as that would be insult to Fun and Fun is awesome for making this.

From what I can gather implementing it would be more time consuming that difficult. Making sure it is on each page that needs it and the statement works like it should would be the hardest part.

I am guessing, from my limited knowledge of programming, the easiest thing to do would be it make it an background bank transaction.

Where when you click "use my debit card" it goes to the bank page/script (discreetly) uses the withdrawal feature(doing a check to see if you have the funds) for the specified amount + interest, if it passes the check it then clicks the buy_item as that would be the next thing in the code and buys the item displaying a message saying you bought item + 10% interest on the purchase or something to that effect.

The script shouldn't touch gil you have on hand because a debit card doesn't touch the cash you have in your wallet right plus it'd be easier to code in.

Also your statement could then be made shorter like this:

bank=gil_in_bank
price=item_cost

if

! Checks to make sure enough funds are available for the purchase
bankprice(1.10) then

! Subtracts item price from current bank account and makes remainder new bank total
bank - price(1.10)=bank *note

else

! If the above statement is not true then sentence below is displayed
echo "Sorry you don't have the available funds or an error occurred"

Endif

*Note:
You wouldn't need a newbank var as you could overwrite your old var and save the hassle, this could lead to errors where your account could be wiped though so a new var could be used for redundancy.

I would think it would be better if you just had a monthly fee for having a debit card or a weekly fee instead of 10% on the item price. This make it a little more difficult to code since you'd have to add statements to the bank script but it could control the gil (which takes up server room) in people's accounts a little better.

All in all I think it is pretty cool idea! But Fun might make more money back by using the taking money out of your bank account because you forgot cause he already charges for withdrawals.

He could charge the withdrawal 1.2% and the 10% making it a standoff between saving time and "wasting" money.

If we have "debit cards" then I really don't see the point in carrying money by hand. You could though, make the "debit card" a rare item gained after a certain....number of classes mastered?

That is actually a good idea! Since it would most help people who play the RPG a lot.
