MEN who spend a mere five minutes trying to attract a beautiful woman can suffer so much stress that it damages their hearts, studies suggest.
And for men trying to get a beautiful stranger they view as out of their league, the risks are even higher - with cortisol levels rising so high that heart attacks and strokes become real possibilities, even if a date does not.
British newspaper The Mail on Sunday reported that the stress suffered by many would-be Romeos can be the equivalent of jumping from a plane.
The study, conducted by researchers at Spain's University of Valencia, involved 84 male students - who each paid £10 ($16) to take part.
Each man's cortisol level was measured before being left alone with an attractive but previously unknown woman, and then again after.
"In this study, we considered that for most men the presence of an attractive woman may induce the perception that there is an opportunity for courtship," the researchers said.
"This study showed that male cortisol levels increased after exposure to a five-minute, short social contact with a young attractive woman. It provides evidence that interpersonal interaction can influence the secretion of cortisol."
But for men who get the girl, the stark reality is even worse. The study claimed that long-term relationship stress can cause "chronic" levels of cortisol, leading to - ironically - impotence.
"That can have adverse effects on health as it worsens various disorders, such as myopathy, adult-onset diabetes, hypertension and impotency," the research team said.
Cortisol can have benefits, however, including quick bursts of energy for survival and pain endurance - useful for avoiding proposals and enduring the hurt of break-ups.

And girls should take note.
For guys, I find that the best thing to do is this: realise that you are not going to get a good-looking girl so know that you don't need to worry about impressing them. I'm comfortable with myself in front of anyone really. I just end up making them laugh, and I usually don't have to try... Either something happens to me or I end up doing something that other people perceive as 'stupid'. XD

First of all, the thing about attractive women is they probably lack what matters in several other areas.
I'm currently comprising a list of "Overrated" things, number 1? Intelligent Women. Number 2? Rediculously attractive women.
Men just need to realize that, yes, she may be hot. But she's also probably a wretchedly shallow btch you couldn't stand to bring around your friends because she can't stop talking about herself and you would have a more substantial conversation with a cucumber while tripping on LSD...
Once these two relationships run their doomed courses I think I'm going to start shooting for 7's and stop aiming for anything above or below that. I think that might be the sweet spot for chicks being attractive but still having a personality.

As a psychology student myself, I must criticize this so called experiment for two reasons. One, it is a small sample size of only 84 males at similar ages; other studies barely managed to get their point across with about 800 participants. Two, it seems stupid that you're taking results from one culture and trying to label all the males in the world with it. What? Just because someone live in...say, india and doesn't loaf around all day looking for girls that they don't count?

I say it's all part of natural human behaviour, so the body should be able to cope, unless you have heart conditions or are on a drug of some sort.
I don't think they mentioned all men in the world in that article though. It looks like the point they were getting at was young men today have stress levels.
