Jump! Ultimate Stars

Jump! Ultimate Stars (An improved upon Jump! Super Stars) was released in Japan a few years back and is the greatest fighting game on the DS. Due to copyright issues and the like, this game will never see the light of day in America. This game contains an incredible amount of characters from pretty much every popular manga Japan has to offer. Not all of the characters are playable though in terms of full control. Although there are a lot of characters to play as, many take the role of a quick support type too.

Lets start with how pre-fight set-up works. The game gives you a manga grid containing 9 to 12 squares (I haven't actually counted), and every character, support, or status booster takes up a certain amount of squares as a panel from one of their many issues. You have fighters, support which when selected depletes special gauge and deals damage with their attack, and individual support that grants things such as extra HP and the like that are connected to fighters to be constantly active at no cost in battle.

That is just the bare bones, the entire system with the komas (pretty much everything you use in a fight) and upgrading komas isn't worth explaining due to the sheer amount of time it would take. I've just barely figured out the system and am still trying to figure out how to create a truly effective manga grid for combat.

I love every single inch of this game, though, the wifi really disappointed me with the one match I've played so far. I got into it, it was just a regular fight (there are a few different things that can take the place of a death match), the people ganged up on me, completely ignoring each other. After they killed me, they just hung around and did nothing. They couldn't be more obvious that they knew each other.

Other than that, this game is flawless. The rom I got has an English patch on it. Although the patch isn't complete, the important stuff is all translated with only minor details left to be figured out by me. The fighting is smooth, the game looks incredible, there are an amazing amount of characters and combinations so that no two fights are the same, and there are tons of unlockables to enjoy (also translated Very Happy).

Unless you know perfect Japanese, I would HIGHLY suggest getting an English patched ROM or finding an online guide to help you out. If you have a flashcart though, getting this game is as easy as a quick 64mb download.

I know what you mean! I used to own that game (till it got stolen Sad ) I tried my hardest to get every character unlocked but never could! I wish I knew Japanese!

I love the fact you could fight just about anyone from the Jump series and even a couple that weren't apart of the comic.
