I'm playing this on PC (my left hand hurts like hell, yes) and I'm loving the game. I have to admit I thought it was gonna be crap when I heard that the first half of the game you're playing someone other than Dante, but then again it's easier to play Nero.
I have played 123 and 4 and loved them all, there is nothing more satisfying thasan taking down huge bosses, especially ones that have weaknesses and attacks you ca use strategy to avoid unlike a lot of other hack and slash/lucky hit button mahers XD
and dante was just sooooo effin kool in this one wasnt he?XD
(where they hinting on nero being virgil?XD)

Nero's advantage surely lies on his devil arm, I find its easier to kill the flying shadow mobs using his arm than relying on Dante's dual gun or shotgun. But Nero's major disadvantage is..he gets easily knocked down by attacks although he's in Devil Mode! Dante on the other hand, won't stagger whenever he is hit in Devil Mode.
And Dante's Pandora+Gunsliger is pretty...hellish.
I personally like The Legendary Dark Knight mode, crazy amount of mobs spawning. Either Nero is a reincarnation of Virgil...or Sparda flirted with many other women besides Dante's mom.
I have to agree with nero-dante thing. But then again Nero is still a new character and this is dante's fourth game lol
I heard rumors that Virgil wil be coming back in DMC 5. That would be awesome! I loved Virgil in 3!
and no, nero ain't virgil lol

I've played 3 and 4, never got around to playing 1 or 2. Did play a demo of 2 years and years go though....
I have to admit that at first I wasn't happy with having to play as "not Dante" but as the story progressed I actually grew to like Nero.
And by the way, as far as Nero's relationship to Virgil...
This is an extreme spoiler, even for those who've played the whole series as of yet.
Hidden:
Capcom has done quite a few interviews about dmc5 and Nero's past. And they've all but outright stated that Nero is Virgil's son.
Edit: And actually, this explains a lot and makes plenty of sense. Think about it, why is Nero capable of repairing, wielding, and handling Yamato? Sh*t even the way he dresses shows resemblance to Virgil. I can't find a single thing that would contradict with the theory that Nero is the son of Virgil, yet there is plenty of details to support it.

yeah that makes perfect sence , i just remember getting the sword and doing the attack thinking .....virgil?...XD
and i too wasnt too certain about playing as "not dante" but i did also grow to liek nero and the devil arm was pretty kool, and a lot better for killing far/flying enemies/ that last boss XD
im glad that you also got pto play as dante though if he wasnt in the game whatsoever i would be pissed XD
cant wait for DMC 5 ....kinda wanna replay 4 now too
damn you kai XD

I had to stop playing this game because of the f**king reapers that fly around...

after you open the bridge to that amazon place and you jumping platforms later on, there is one platform that spawns flying reapers that you need to basically counter than attack but it always made me fall off the platform... I was playing on hard though and got through every other battle up until then. then I just said eff it and never played it again.
I did hate Nero's revving thing.... I never used it though I'm sure it made mince meat of enemies especially if you did those attacks that fully charged it. I have to say I am disappointed in myself because I beat 1, 2 and 3...

Yes, Exceed was... exceedingly () irritating to charge up, and therefor very impractical. If it had lasted for more than a single hit with each charge, then it would have been more worth it, or had it only taken a single rev to get one charge. I found the Exceed system to be not much more than a booster for Nero's "Super" costume.

LoL @ Mabus. That's a secret mission. I went there with Dante and I had the double jump ability and gunslinger level 3 so that's all you really need. You use Ebony and Ivory cause they're the fastest ( I just don't like Coyote ) and all you gotta do is jump around the reapers. in case they get too close and the platform didn't yet show up, shoot the mofos....
And I bet Nero is gonna show in DMC 5 :

Kikizo: What are your plans for the future of the Devil May Cry series?
Kobayashi: We haven't decided yet really, but personally, I think that because we have introduced this new young character, I want him to grow in future games of the series. I think the series will stay an action game series, certainly, because this is what it is known for, and we are action fans with too few resources to experiment other types of title for Devil May Cry.
And as for Nero... Some say he's Virgil's son and it would be logical considering yamato and clothing. But what bugs me the most is the ending of the first DMC. I recently finished it and I remember that after Dante beat Mundus, he said, "Goodbye! And when you do come back, give my regards to my son, will ya?"
So... Nero is Dante's son? That would be weird... Especially considering, at least from the looks of it, Dante doesn't know... Not that I think Dante wouldn't be capable of ditching a woman after impregnating her. I just doubt he would.
And I'm positive that they will unveil at least the bulk of Nero's past in the next installment of the series. I'm personally willing to wait it out too. Relatively soon I'll be preoccupied by FFXIII for a while, which should hold me out for Versus, and by that time I'm sure DMC5 will be out.

You can return back to the Wheel Switch thing once the reapers appear and defeat them, so you won't have to worry falling down. And then just wait for the Wheel Switch to be deactivated, activate it again and the reapers won't show again. But I think Dante must Die mode and other harder mode doesn't allow that to happen, the reapers will keep showing up everytime you activate the switch lol.
Well, I hope Nero learns to use that Yamato "entrusted" to him by his "uncle" (ROFL, Dante's became an uncle) in DMC 5.
