The characters did not seem real, nor did they have what we call, "character development." Nor much background. Sure, we know Vaan helps Megalo, but is he hired? Is he an apprentice? Does he get payed? Why Megalo? Does he have family? Is Megalo family?

Yeah, you clearly haven't been paying attention to the cutscenes lol. A couple of times Vaan mentions his brother Reks, and I'm sure at least once either Vaan or Reks mentions their parents having died.

i agree that there definitely should have been a love story in the game...barely even resembles ff without it..though having one with vaan and penelo (2 of many characters who are barely even mildly fleshed out character wise) would have felt wrong...like incest; i always felt like they were brother and sister through the game.

Where do I start complaining?
I hated the loot system. With a passion. The idea of running thru an area 900 times attempting to get an item that I had a 1/200 chance of getting, was lame.
And then to make things more interesting, you have a 1/200 chance of getting the item IF you have a certain accessory equipped...for some...but others, if you had that item equipped you had a 0% chance of getting it.
That was terrible.
THEN, they did not make one single fight what I would actually call "challenging". When they wanted to make a fight difficult, such as Yiazmat, instead of giving better AI and difficult to predict attack patterns, and a large variation of attack methods, they instead give the ability to insta kill people at random, and do so much damage that you had to keep reverse up at all times.
This was not exactly a challenge. It was ANNOYING! VERY annoying!
THEN, as if those 2 flaws were not enough...they gave us maybe 20 hours of storyline. And 100 hours of side quests! WTF?! How about giving 100 hours of storyline and 20 hours of side quests? Wouldnt that make more sense? And if you bothered to do all of the side quests, the storyline became WAY too easy due the fact that the side quests (tho not challenging) were much closer to a challenge than the actual story.
Heck, just keeping up with the "Hunts" would guarantee that you were way more powerful than needed for the storyline.
I at one time said that FF8 was the worst installment. I have to say, that it is now the next to worst.
