Virus
I need help, guys... Well, actually my friend needs help... You see, she has had a fight with a girl and that girl has sent her a virus over msn. And now, my friend can't log into her computer, but she can still turn it on. So I've said to her that the virus has probably shut down her system, but I'm not sure I'm right so I desperately need your opinion. And I still can't believe that there are so sick people who send viruses on purpose! I mean, sick, just sick!

Your friend doesn't have antivirus on your her computer  If she can access the internet she can use the free online scanner:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Once the virus is removed I recommend she install Avast free antivirus software.

The catch is that she has an antivirus, but when her laptop got infected it just turned off and she doesn't know what to do now.

try restarting the computer in safe mode. hit F12 I think when the computer is starting. You should be able to get a little farther past the profile. Also, If you have undeniable proof that it was that girl, then she could be arrested.

Yeah, If safe mode doesn't work, the only way to get past it is to most probably... Wipe the hard drive and just start over. Although next time, just tell her to be more cautious when opening files on msn... Because you can't actually just send a virus through msn, it needs to be through a file or through a Link... So just tell her to be more cautious next time, and most probably, get a better Antivirus.

have you ever heard of a Preinstalled Environment?
if you have a disk like BartPE, you can boot up access teh net and find a spy bot like program to scan the Hard Drive!
