Writer would appreciate some feedback

Hi everyone,

I’m very happy to say that I’ve just had my debut novel published and would love to swap thoughts and opinions on what makes a compelling read. With this in mind, what do you think attracts a potential reader? Would it be the front cover like mine below or is it more likely to be on the strength of the synopsis? Just how important is the cover art and what really determines our decision to invest the time to actually sit down and read a book? As a new author, I feel these questions are very important, so any insights you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Cover Art is fairly important. Not many people will pick up a book which looks boring and bland. It's literally judging a book by it's cover in most cases.

By the way, congrats on getting it published.

thats great markjh.i will look out for that is it published in the uk? i do agree with lord J to a point.but me personally (sorry for the cliche) i never judge a book by its cover.i frequent second hand book shops and love the old bound books.i always go by the little snippets of imfo like when they use some paragraphs or tell you alittle of what its about.good luck with it though.

Hi,

Yes it is available in the UK. I'm sure if you asked in your local library they could get it for you. What I really need now is some constructive feedback from readers! Smile

Thanks for replying and taking an interest. I really appreciate it.

That would be great. I think it will be hard to find in shops, but is available just about everywhere on-line (WH Smiths, Waterstones, Tesco, Amazon etc.).

Will look forward to hearing your views on it! Smile

Hmm, well, the front cover hass to catch someone's eye, and I think that it does.

But personally I tend to read the Blurb at the back as well as looking at the front cover, so its probably not the most essential thing.

Hi,

It's a fantasy adventure. The synopsis is on Amazon if you want to check it out. I would be interested to hear your opinion on it.

Thanks for replying Smile

My favourite type of book. Very Happy

I'll look in WHSmiths and Waterstones on my way back from college.

Hi BlackJack,

Obviously that would be great, but I can honestly say I've been playing Final Fantasy games for many, many years (yes, I'm quite old! Smile ). I haven't had too much feedback from this post (although I appreciate what I have got) so I haven't had much to respond to. But if you want to chat about anything, fire away!
