Firefox or Explorer?

So what do you prefer over Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer (Both latest versions) And why?

For me it is Firefox... and why? It's better all round. You can get themes and skins for it... The speed is just, out of this world compared to Internet Explorer sometimes and the firewall is alot better then explorers.

I use Firefox and prefer it. Its only one annoyance was last week when it decided to delete all of my bookmarked sites.

Firefox... I'll use IE for testing site designs, sites that have problems with Firefox, or things like that. But for everyday usage, Firefox is the best for me.

i tried using Opera.. but the lack of versitle plugins and it crashing extremely often bugged me so i stayed away.

as Thoul said, IE really is only used for testing websites so that those who dont use firefox yet can still view pages (since they are the majority of web users still)

Opera services the Wii Internet..

I use Firefox when I'm on my PC and it's a lot better than IE. That, and the fact that my IE went mad and whenever I try opening it it keeps coming up with about 10 IE screens which can't get onto any websites. Confused

I used Opera for a while last year. I never really had any problems with it. On my older PC, I found it was more stable and faster than Firefox. I did miss all the extensions, though.

A few years before that, I used Avant Browser for a while, until I learned about Firefox (or Firebird, as it was then). It was pretty good... just an IE shell really, but it improved on a lot of the security areas where IE was lacking.

Yeah well once Firefox 1.0 came out it was great... then last last year 2.0 came out and that made another improvement and since then they are only bringing out small upgrades for it. And as for sites not allowing Firefox, i don't know why they do that... It has all the same log codes as IE has I'm pretty sure...

*brain cells explode*
they dont do it on purpose (well most of them dont) its rather just a lack of effort on the websites part.

see, the problem lies in conformity and code...
take a string of code. (gonna take one from this page so i dont have to remember anything from my web design classes)
www.funender.com wrote:

<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr>
<td class="hdr_sides">&nbsp;</td>
<td width="593" class="ff_header" height="102">
<td class="hdr_sides">&nbsp;</td>

</tr>
</table>

OK so look at the </tr>, perhapses in IE you dont need the closing </tr> on the last Table Row, thusly some websites may leave it out because they havent tested their website in firefox and it works perfectly in IE. but when you fire it up in Firefox, BAM there is a table misalignment problem and your table wont load (maybe not even the page)

to prevent this problem there is a website for web coding standards The World Wide Web Consortium firefox does its best to follow these standards for rendering webpages so all a website has to do is follow the W3C (which can tell you what is coded wrong in your website so you arent scouring through code for hours for compatibility fixes, though it may end up that way anyway) and ideally by following the W3C your webpage will render properly in a majority of webbrowsers.

IE6 very loosely followed this standard but still had its own standards that it used that many people conformed to simply because it is the most commonly used browser.

IE7 though is closer to the W3C standards in rendering, meaning that with the launch of IE7, there will be a decrease in the websites that ignore the W3C standards, and therefore, will be more websites that display in firefox correctly.

but that is all just what i learned, Thoul would be better to explain this than me.

OH.
and your lucky i didn't say anything about "log codes" (mainly because I'm not really sure what you meant....)

That's a pretty good explanation of it.

Sites working in only one browser really isn't anything new. That's been going on for ten years, all the way back to when the only major browsers were Netscape 3 and IE 3. There weren't any standards for web coding back then, so they just threw whatever feature they wanted into the browsers. No one really cared about what was proper coding, just so long as the pages worked.

Since then the standards were developed and people have begun to code according to those. Netscape's browser has been more actively developed than IE, eventually becoming Firefox. Because it's getting a lot more work done on it than IE gets, Firefox has adopted more of the standards than IE.

Firefox; and yeah, like quite a few sites only work on one browser I think; but I think these days they're probably quite rare.
