rememberence
Dear Grandfather,
I have had the most wonderful fourteen years with you. Every day I look at our picture. It’s you and me with my curly hair, if you remember those days. We were watering plants together in the front yard. I had a stripped shirt on and really short pants. You had a blue shirt on and short gray pants. You were holding onto the watering can, while I was trying to lift it up, trying to get a drop of water into the plant. I felt your hand underneath mine, helping me lift it up.
Every year I look for those home videos of the family. Mostly the Canadian movies. When the camera is on you, I can’t help but notice that you have never changed one little bit. I pause the video to look at you . You still wear those same ten and a half black shoes. Your socks have always touched an inch under your knees. Those pants that you wear are always the same color, tan. You wear no other shirts or sweaters, but the ones that you have had for ever. You have always had that ring of hair around your head since I can remember. You have not changed and that’s what I like about you, you don’t care what people think.
When I was young I would always run down stairs with crayons and paper. We would always color together. You taught me how to color inside the lines and I taught you how to not make every picture a strip. We sort of taught each other something new those couple of years that we had.
I remember when I would run into your room and we would watch wrestling until we fell a sleep. You would laugh when I tried being one of the wrestlers. We would talk until we couldn’t think of anything to talk about on any given day.
We have had the most wonderful years. We had a great time together. Whether if its gardening or sports, we have had always been great buddies.
