I can understand a bit of Japanese in games, coz I know the Katakana alphabet... Or at least most of it. The rest is up to thinking ^^
The little bit I know of Japanese, I learned out from series. It is just a couple words tho... It would REALLY be helpful indeed to have some Japanese speaker around!

heres how it went from beginning to end. The original letter for letter translation of the japanese name is Aerith. The correct phonetic translation is Aeris
This means that if you say to a Japanese person "Aeris" they will know who you mean. This is becasue the japanese pronounce -th sounds as -ss sounds. They don't actually have a sound for -th and none of their words are said in this way.
The only reason it was changed back for Kingdom Hearts etc is because idiotic fan boys who didn't understand this blew up enough stink on forums and so BANG! they change it.
The true name is Aeris. That is how the japanese say it, that is how it was originally written and spoken over here so, by logical conclusion, majority rules and the true spelling is Aeris

It's spelled as Aeris and it's supposed to have been pronounced Aeris as far as I knew.

Aeirs=Aerith >_< japenese spelling is Aerith. but TH is prenounced SS if you read he before posts.
