Any Europeans getting a PS3 on launch day

Im starting to feel like I might. Couple of things have put me off though like the lack of backwards compatibility after Sony has removed the Emotion Engines from our PS3's although 1000 PS2 games out of 2300 should still work. Im also not sure if the demands there. Retailers keep saying there getting alot of pre orders but when I go into game shops theres so much PS3 advertising it kind of seems like there isn't any interest.

The price doesen't bother me too much although it will if I get a PS3 and the console flops. If it succeeds like it should it will be a good investment.

I really like the PS3's line up this year though. Resistance, Motorstorm, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Unchartered Drakes Fortune and White Knight Story. Decent range of games this year.

So anyone getting a PS3 on launch day?

On launch? Hell no, not at that price and it's still rather new technology so there'll still be many bugs...

Well I hear the consoles been reliable in America. No reports of breakdowns or anything. I know the price is high but theres some good games. A problem for me though is the PS2 still has alot of good games coming out.

Dazzard just an off topic post I see your playing Dragon Quest VIII. I beat it last year and its become my favourite RPG. What do you think of it. Im also playing FFXII aswell. Got it on friday. Im about 5 hours in so far.

I was considering getting a PS3 near launch, but I won't. Not now that I don't know which of my ps2 games will work on it. Also there aren't really any games available at launch (all 30 of them lol) that really appeal to me as a must-have game. You'd think having such a huge launch number that you'd find a game, but nothing special stands out for me except maybe Motorstorm.

I highly doubt the PS3 will be a flop actually. In australia and nz pre-orders are incredibly high, and a lot of the big DVD stores here have stated that they'll only be stocking Blu-ray movies, which will appeal to ps3 owners no doubt. I just hate the fact some ps2 games won't work on the ps3.

I also just got FFXII and am 15 hours in lol.

My must have launch games are Motorstorm and Resistance. Im not really as FPS fan but I like this one. Id also like to play Oblivion from the launch titles. I think the launch lineups good if you treat it as a launch lineup and don't expect every game to be fantastic because if you do that theres never gonna be any games you want.

Im also worried with the backwards compatibility so id like to see the list of games that work before buying. Too bad thats not released till launch day.

As for FFXII it feels like a race to beat it by launch day but I hear its a 60+ hour game so it may be a race I can't win.

Yeah I'm not progressing quickly in FFXII since I have a lot of homework from uni lol.

Anyway, today in a catalogue for JB Hi Fi (Australia's biggest dvd/cd/game retailer) revealed a mini special for pre-ordering a PS3; You get a free HDMI cable lol. I dunno how much they cost but a free one sounds nice since I have a plasma tv with HDMI input.
But still I agree with some analysts in that there aren't any games for the PS3 that truly show off the consoles potential. So I will definitely wait until there is either a good game or a price drop. Since as it stands the only games I'm considering are Tom Clancy's Double Agent, F1 Championship edition and Motorstorm. the problem? Tom Clancy is on pc and xbox360, the F1 game uses last years roster and motorstorm is a 1 player game (online multiplayer only).

I think HDMI cables are £18 here. Don't know why there needed though. Think there for 1080p TV's. Id be lucky to get a 720p one.

I liked Motorstorm and Resistance. Maybe F1 but I just couldn't get 2 racing games at once. Need some variety. After ive seen Gamespots review of Motorstorm and it got a 7.9 im not even sure I should bother. Seems like it may get old and boring quick. There is Oblivion thats an RPG at launch. It lasts a 100 hours but im just not sure its my type of game and its also on PC and Xbox360.
