Best Teams for FFVI
I said TEAMS, not TEAM! This is about the splitting up of parties which seems to occur constantly in VI, where the last level and (in the GBA version) the Dragon's Den. I want to know what the best THREE TEAMS are, with equipment trading between teams allowed. You can be as vague or specific as you want, but of course, we care more about the specific posts.
Do your research on gamefaqs for exact equipment stats:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/final_fantasy_iii_item.txt
I'll start out with a vague post: I think the most powerful team would have to be one with one Fighter (with magicite-boosted Vigor and Offering, unless it's Setzer), one Mage (with magicite-boosted Magic Power and Gem Box + Economizer), and two Imp Dragoons(with magicite-boosted strength and full Imp set, and Dragoon Boots + Dragon Horn).
That format can be used to make three teams, as offering can be passed around, Imp sets are infinite, there are two possible dragoons (one horn comes from trading the Gold Hairpin at the Colosseum), and there is one Gem Box which can be passed around.
And by the way, does ANYONE use Gau? Anyone?!
I looked up a guide in gamefaqs because I simply had no idea how to use him, but he seems way too confusing and complicated to use without constantly pausing and looking at the guide.

Gauīs not really hard to use... But heīs techniques are quite boring to get... You have to go to this Veldt, having him and three more people, then use the Leap command, and fight till heīs back.
I didnīt like his skills very much though...
One really good character is Gogo, but I still didnīt try him at a high level... Why? He can have any single skill of the game.
Anyway...
I think that the best characters might be:
-Setzer, with X-Fight and Counter Attack/Two Handed Weapons is deadly...
-Celes, with Economizer, Gem Box, the Illumina sword (that little pretty sword... XD) and having 100+ Magic Power.
-Terra, with 9999HP and Atma Weapon (it deals more damage when sheīs on high HP.
-Cyan, with 100+ Strenght (I hadnīt got that ammount when I got him to level 99 T_T) and using Quadra Slam/Quadra Slice.
I think thatīs the strongest team, but you can always replace one of them (Terra is the most rusty of these, in my opinion) for an Imp Dragoon (I liked Edgar for this... Dunno why )
I think thatīs the best party for this game

The format for the party would be as I stated earlier...I was thinking Cyan might maybe do well just with his abilities, but it takes WAY too long to charge up for them...maybe some people like it anyways.
Here's what I saw:
Possible Mages (sit in back row): Celes, Terra, Relm, Strago (Strago has the worst starting Magic Power, Relm has the best, but Strago has his Blue Magic, and isn't really useful anywhere else).
Possible Fighters (front row unless attack is unaffected, i.e. Setzer): Locke (Atma Wep + Val Knife/'calibur + Genji Glove + Offering = liek OMG!), Setzer (RULES with his fixed dice!), Cyan (he CAN use offering, you know!), Umaro (I haven't tried offering with him yet, but there's no other place to put him, 'cept in secondary), MAYBE Gogo (forgot how his ability worked, and whether it's affected by him having offering), Shadow (da cool guy with little attack power), Sabin (He CAN have double claws, right?), Gau (he apparently works with offering, and rules with it if you know how to use him), Edgar (he can be a double-lance fighter or an imp fighter!), or Mog (same as Edgar!).
Secondary Fighters: Cyan (Umm, explained by Nerthul), Umaro (dunno, maybe he fits in here), Gogo (depends on how his ability worked...grr, can't remember....).
Remember, Mog and Edgar can be Dragoons even WITHOUT Imp status, with a Glow Lance or Pearl Lance, maybe just so they can equip something like Aegis shield to protect them from magic. Sounds stupid to me, though.
Dragoons: EVERYONE except three of the four possible mages...I mean, duh. Well, actually, you can't be Umaro for this because Umaro can't wear the equipment....
Stat increases via magicite:
Mages: Magic Power +2
Fighters: Vigor +2
Dragoons: Er...running out of Magicite. Just trade between the dragoons: If you have the GBA version, have one with Vigor +2, and trade with the guy with +1 every time they level up; If otherwise, Trade between them, with one having +2, the other +2 Stamina (because that can be useful), and the Fighter having +1 Vigor...and occasionally give the Fighter +2. And if you have Setzer as a fighter (DO IT!), you should have him have +2 Stamina, and have the other two trade Vigors, or stay the same if GBA. Yeah, you'll figure it out.
And no, speed is not important.

Stupid me... I forgot Mog... I knew I had forgotten a good Dragoon...
Mog is the best dragoon!
I just made the mistake of making them learn every magic before starting worrying about the stats... Try to give them the appropiate Esper as early as possible, for example:
-Bahamut, to get 9999 HP fast with the Atma Weapon user.
-Zoneseek or Tritoch for Magic Power (+2)
-I forgot the ones that gave 2 vigor... I think Raiden was one of them.
If equipped at a low level, then youīll get to crazy stats at level 99... I used them since level around 60 or 70, and at level 99 I had more than 100 Magic Power with Celes... I donīt think thereīs a need of having more Magic Power, since with Cure 3 she heals always over 9000 to every character lol, and with Fire... She dealt around 2000 damage XD

Well, with Economizer, the only attack magic you need to know is Ultima. That kind of lessens the number of spells you need to learn. Also, you should NEVER use HP increasers...use Stamina increases once you've gotten your important stat high enough to do just about 9999 with everything. Stamina increases the effectiveness of healing spells on you, so you might as well get some. You know, to lessen the load on mages, so THEY in turn can get Stamina increases.
RANDOM USEFUL INFO: The easiest way to kill any enemy in the Colosseum with no resistance to insta-death is to have Setzer have two Insta-death-inflicting weapons (Genji Glove) as well as offering. EIGHT CHANCES AT INSTANT DEATH, MAN! I think Setzer has way too many insta-killer weapons.

Well, the fact of having good Magic Power, is to make fights at the Colloseum easier. Siegfried is a really dangerous opponent youīll fight, if you ask me.
In order to get those pretty Exp. Eggs and level up in a flash, youīll have to beat him, and more than once.

WOW...I was reading a guide ('cause the rage guide said something about Setzer not needing his cool dice), and there was this cool Setzer strategy. Can't believe I didn't think of it in all my Imp frenzy.
HAVE SETZER BE AN IMP. Duh. Give him all Imp armor, and the fixed dice, as well as offering and some other thing. He'd be REALLY strong then, in terms of both defense and offense. I felt like slapping myself for not fully comprehending the power of kappa.

Sorry for the double post...just to show what my current set-up looks like.
Party One:
Setzer: Fighter (Imp)
Terra: Mage
Gogo: Fighter/Mage (Imp)
Cyan: Secondary Fighter
Party Two:
Locke: Figther
Celes: Mage (Just HAD to have those two together )
Edgar: Dragoon (Imp)
Strago: Dragoon (Imp, yeah, it works out, but weirdly)
Party Three:
Er...haven't decided yet. I think it'll be something like:
Sabin/Shadow: Fighter
Relm: Mage (Best mage EVAR!)
Mog: Dragoon (Imp)
Sabin/Shadow: Dragoon (Imp)
Thoughts? Should I stop concentrating so much on Party 1 and 2 that I can only compensate by giving Party 2 Relm, my best mage?
And by the way...I need a final, single-party set-up. Just because.
I know I'll use Locke, because of Valiant Knife + Atma Weapon + Offering, and Relm, because of high Magic Power, but I don't know about the rest.

Well, for magic power, even if Relm has a bit higher, Terra has the Morph command, that raises it a LOT... Celes and Terra are my main mages... Relm and Strago... I didnīt like both of them too much...
Try using Sabin in your fighting, and try Mog instead of Strago in party two... I think heīll do his duty better

Are you suggesting making party 3 weaker than it is already?!
And by the way, Relm also has lots of Magic Power boosting equipment, so yes, she's much better than Celes in general and Terra most of the time.
And by the way, Shadow is a great fighter, with his weapon which can make enemies "stop". Four times that, and he's stopping everything on the field!

Umaro's worse, as he has limited strength and weapons...so he's weak at higher levels, when compared to others.
And Shadow and Sabin have about the same attack power, while Sabin has a bit more because of Strength. But Shadow's stop, combined with the fact that it doesn't really matter because Sabin's attack matters equally if he were an imp, makes me want to use Shadow instead. Dude, 8 attacks, 4 of which can cast Stop on an opponent, is very powerful.
And you haven't answered about what the heck you were trying to do to poor Party 3....

I'm bad with names since I name them myself but I liked to use:
White haired opera chick
Spiky headed karate guy
the Knight with quadra-slash and stuff.
Team 2:
Thief
Guy with chainsaw
Main esper girl
Team 3:
moogle, Rau, bigfoot.
I kicked so much ass with my main.
I always did level the others though and mess with their stats as much as possible with the espers.
this was my favorite game for years!
