You can always keep an extra save file in your memory card or FF8 save file folder. You should explore everything in FF8 especially cards, refining em' though some are rare is reversable, you can always load back your previous save file to get back all your precious cards.
Holy War works just as Holy except it is for the whole party.

I only used the Holy Wars against Omega Weapon, the Griever junctioned to Ultimecia can put a good hurt, as it attacks fast and deals around 3000 damage with Ultima, or use Planet Collapse (or whatever) and cause over 4000 damage. Still, the hard part is survivng Shockwave Pulsar, and then Ultimeciaīs first attack.
The last Ultimecia isnīt really toguh, but when she starts speaking, donīt even forget to have your HP maxed out, as she will cast you Apocalypse... Donīt kill the lower part, as if you do, she wonīt do Apocalypse, but she will use Ultima and that skill that leaves you in 1 HP, and kills you FAST...
So, when she leaves you in 1 HP, have Squall and Zell/Irvine attacking with limit breaks (thereīs a high chance you get Lionheart, and do around 200k damage) while the other char, Selphie, casts Full Cure, and start the cycle once again.
This is the strategy I used at level 44, and I could win without using either Holy Wars or Heros.
