As far as doing No Sphere Grid is concerned, you don't have entrust and a 12 hit attack reels does 12 damage (unless under trio of 9999). Then you have impulse/mega flare

normal attack is good cause impulse slows Bahamut down. i like haste and have curaga i used Bahamut to fight Omega Weapon cause his move that hits everyone "shimera rain" (cant spell it) nearly kills off whole party. You can break damage limit without using the sphere grid it's an item but don't forget you said "no spehere grid" all your normal characters wouldnt even do 100 so you rely on the aeons which near the start you have velfore who is pretty weak later (unless you get his 2nd overdrive but you have to beat dark velfore to get it)

Actually, you can get Energy Blast as soon as you first get out of Besaid village. I've seen Auron do over 500 without any levelling up at all (Masamune with 1 HP)
And need to rely on aeons?
I've got up to Braska's final aeon (haven't beaten him though) in No Sphere Grid, No Summoning, No Customising, No Overdrives (all at the same time).
