When you first enter the clam lands, you see the film clip. Just keep following down the path and just before you get too the middle of it (Where the small camp site is) he should be there and you should see him. Or if he is not there i do believe that he also goes to the top-left of the map. I am pretty sure that i have seen him there before.

ok thanks and one more thing where can i find/steal mega phoenix im kinda stuck because i need to kill dark valefor to get the besaid sphere i forgot so i need auto phoenix so if you know it would be wonderfull if you told me:D
