The future of console companies
About these friggin consoles. Do you think that there is any future if no one comes up with new ones after like 2040? (i know the year is a bit off maybe 2030 or so)
I know nobody would care but give it your opinion. Do you think that this is it and that we are going to keep playing same sh!ts forever like that old flash in newgrounds(the one with the 3 guys that are games critics and go to the e3).
i was thinking of adding another option, " maybe computers ll be cheaper and consoles ll become hand consoles like gameboys or something". i think ps3 is the future, too bad about sega, btw maybe the one i didnt add will become true later on, eventually.
ps: there is another important question... where would you put your money in? computer mmorpgs or consoles mmorpgs like FFXI (i dont put an example for pc mmorpgs cause there are many right now and many more in development like GTH and more)
i dont know the answer to this one.

I've been waiting for the TV manufactuars to start including built in systems. wouldn't be too far fetched to think that one day zenith or r.c.a. might be a contender.

That's happened already at least in argentina (once).
But it didnt lasted long, it was just when ps1 came out (about 2 years after) and dollar was 1:1 so it didnt fare well.(the pesos went down about 4 years later, that would have been a nice time to set that service)
They made a crappy Family (a pirate console) like console, it didnt need anything, you pluged it to the tv and to the wall and if you paid for it you could get a channel with about 300 games, like the arcade game of x-men and many sonic games and great arcade/old-console games (clasics of course), any kind of tv. The console was free with the first charge(um i think it was 30$ a month first and later it became just 20$).
ps: no one seem to care for this but i think its something worthwhile discusing... at current there's only those 3 console companies. what if one was to be asimilated like sega, or something like that.

Yeah I think that game companies would need to hire more staff since some really good games take about 4+ years to create now, but they should still provide good games. The consoles are only hardware and technology keeps enhancing so there are no worries there.

Lol Klyvern, I've seen that tv thingy you mentioned.
It's not really a great idea IMO to merge TV with console.
My guess is the future of consoles, we will see the fine line between pc games and console games disintegrate and one day it might be possible to play an online game whether it needs a save system or not through a local pc shop/at your home pc/at the arcades/at your home console/at your hand held.
Console developers will concentrate more on specs than gaming qualities more so than now. Gaming developers will merge more often to cope up with the increasing demand for entertainment.
Take for ex. Namco will merge with Sega and Nippon Ichi and Atlus and Jukes.
We will get our first dose of a true virtual mmorpg experience. Imagine living the phantasy star online in your console and pc while to increase your stats quicker, you can go to an arcade or switch the to your console and gain better fighting skills by playing a Tekken like game in the PS universe and if you are a tactical person, you will be playing a strategic game in the roots of Phantom Brave and Disgaia only on a wider massive army scaled plane and you will see a convergence of unknown games appearing as mini games (which aren't mini games anymore) released to the US by Atlus.
Also game developers will rely on the mod community to better their games to decrease costs.

I'm far more of a PC Gamer than a console gamer, but I do still enjoy console (at one point, I did own all 3 of the current generation's (XBox, PS2, Gamecube) consoles, but not all at once).
An advantage of console over PC is that on console, games are made to fit the system instead of on PC where you make it to fit GOOD systems well and supply more for people with 1337 computers.
This also applies to online gameplay: everyone is at a generally equal playing field on console. One person having a better processor or more RAM is unheard of, and thus, instead of having a few people lagging a ton, a few more lagging a little, and a good deal more playing normally, you get everyone at an equal playing level.
Of course, internet connexion speed is a factor, but since you need at LEAST DSL or Cable to be online, no one really lags badly (I would imagine).
