Final Fantasy + Horror Rpg Idea
Do you think it's possible? (By this, I mean create a good scary rpg out of this hybrid)
I'm planning to use a game maker, maybe RPG Maker or something else to create a game like this. Right now I'm just looking for suggestions for a plot.
You would think that since all FF dealt with the end of the world except FFT and FFTA that there would be a sort of scary RPG thought out or sort of scare factor with the realization that the world would end.
I admit that games like Koudelka and Parasite Eve did try yet it didn't feel scary. It was a horror rpg alright yet there was no scare factor.
What do you guys and gals think? What's it take to make a legitimately scary horror rpg?

well since im a broadcasting major, and looking into that kind of medium... i dont know if you could make such a game with rpg maker. it would depend a lot on the mood of the game. it would have to be very dark overall. you have to dig deep into ppl to make them think something is going to go down. just like ever horror movie ever. light is always kept to a minimal. i dont know if the story is possible though. i think... the end of the world isnt really scary. i mean where the end of the world to be tomorrow, and we all knew about it today, there would be no real reason to be "scared" bc in reality we cant do anything about it.
on the other hand if you could make a character that was evil and actually scared you and didnt go with the end of the worl thing, it would be more scary than msot games.

Interesting idea. May you elaborate more on the evil character not going with the end of the world thing?

Flawed explanation but a possible concept.
It wouldn't work in the long run though because to make it anything even remotely horror would change the concept of the game. All RPGS have moments of "scaryness" but it's not possible to combine the genre of say survivor horror with role playing.
It wouldn't work for final fantasy, but it's possible to turn another horror game into a rpg/horror hybrid.

honestly, now that ive had tim to think about it, i dont think there will ever be a truely scary rpg. it would require too many cut scenes to be enjoyable. and even then, i just dont know.
maybe once we get into virtual reality those current rpgs that have scary moments, will be far worse. being in the game alone would be a thrill ride, let alone having to see some of those summons first hand. id prolly crap myself.

Yep, it's tough. That's why I like to make it possible since no one has done it before.
